  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Buying a 2021 G70 with 11k. Only 60k powertrain warranty for second owner. Bad idea?

Agreed, everything I've seen says that it is not covered. (It should be covered, but it is what it is.) Also, the federal emission warranty has a lot of "outs," and I have not seen it cover the PCM (ECU, whatever). It seems to cover stuff that would make the car have higher emissions, but does not seem to cover stuff that keeps the car from running at all (no run, no emission).

It's important to keep your expectation in check when reading the Warranty info. Just because things like ECU is listed under Emission Control does not mean Genesis will cover it between 5/60 and 8/80 for ALL types of failures. Yes, the ECU is an integral part of emission control system, but that is only one part of what the ECU does. The 8/80 might cover cases where the ECU failed at its emission control tasks (like failing to read lambda sensors, even though O2 sensors tested okay).

For example, if the ECU fails to communicate with the ABS controller and your ABS light comes ON, the failure is not emission control related and likely will not be covered after 5/60 expires, particularly if the OBD2 emissions cycle test results are all normal, and there are no other indications that the emission control system is compromised.

I'd remove the 'likely' part; it wouldn't be covered, period. And don't think anybody would argue with that. Ha ha. At any rate, knowing dealers, and my service experiences with them (all bad), I always assume nothing will be covered, to be honest. So if it's not, I wouldn't be surprised. Ha ha. Disappointed, but not surprised. And absolutely NEVER buy any 3rd party 'extended warranty' crap (it's just a service contract, with tons of hidden exclusions). If I had done that, I'd be out tens of thousands of dollars by now (60 here). So if anything happens out of warranty (if I keep a vehicle that long, which for one reason or another, hasn't happened in decades, mostly due to unexpected issues prompting a sale), I'm WAAAAAY ahead of that 'game', where dealers almost always win big. And same thing with appliances, and other crap.
