If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hey everyone!

I've started my hunt for a new car and so far it's come down to the Mustang V-6 or the Hyundai Genesis 3.8 R-Spec coupe.

Anyway, I trust you are all Coupe professionals! :D

I'm looking for as many Pros/Cons I can find about this coupe! I want to know the WORST things about every car I'm looking to buy, and I'm starting with the Genesis which is my top pick so far. I would've liked to buy the FT-86 but they keep extending the release date and I don't have full info on it yet :p

Anyway, what does everyone have to say about the 3.8 R Spec? Should I go with a different model, even? Why or why not?

This isn't necessarily bias free research, but I've basically been looking at Car and Driver's lightning lap cars and deciding based on price/performance. I may or may not track this car but I'd like to get something sporty. I still have other options open so keep that in mind!

Thanks!

Pros: Affordable 300HP sports car that has a decent suspension and great brakes. When the throttle is modulated correctly the car almost refuses to break loose on the tarmac with the B P RE050's. The camber bolts, that come with all R-spec's and Tracks I believe, are wonderful but if you are participating in scca stock class racing solo they will up you from the stock class to the street touring class when installed. No hood line to look over while driving like in any mustang. Meaning you can see the road.

Cons... hmm well when down shifting out of 5th to any gear not even racing or any of that jazz it sticks between neutral and the shift gate not really an issue just annoying. Lot's of questions from people with nicer and not quite as nice vehicles like "Why a Hyundai?" and my favorite "You didn't get the 2.0T?!?!?". Generally speaking absolutely NO aftermarket support at the Hyundai dealers. everything shy of using a non Hyundai air filter and oil filter will void you illustrious warranty. Now I'm sure someone on here has a friend or a dad or an uncle who works/owns/knows a dealer who "lets" them have all that and still get away with it but if you're anything like me and have to move around a lot once you buy a car in one place you don't get the same dealer services that you do where you bought.

Now, like anything else, what do you want? I don't know you nor you me but, why are you buying this car? Whatever it may be? Is it a weekend warrior track car? A DD fun car? Somewhere in between? Think about it this way too. you can either have the pinnacle sports car of one company -OR- the entry level pony car of another? Not to hate on the mustang I really like the GT 5.0s but just a couple thousand dollars out of my budget when it came to buy a car.

No matter what you'll get what you want. The Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-spec to me is a great value when it comes to a sports car.

Finally if you're having a hard time finding one you can have mine for $27,500.00 Karussell White 5000 miles and a K'n'N panel filter =D

Good Hunting!

Lol thanks for all the advice but telling me all this then telling me you want to sell yours is uncomfortable hahaha.

Anyway, I'm looking for a nice, sporty car ('reliable') mostly for daily driving but I like to leave the track potential there as well. No more canyon racing for me, just possible track days.

I don't look to really mod the car to be honest, I appreciate a stock car as is and have had plenty modding fun in the past and I'm kinda over it. Is the warranty 60k or 100k? (or is it just that different things are covered under different periods of time?) thanks again!

Not trying to sell mine I like it. Just saying :) As far as reliability mine has been great so far. and the warranty is a 5 year 50K bumper to bumper and 10 year 100K powertrain I think.

Honestly this car feels like a more purpose built sports car than the mustang did for me. The Mustang has gobs more power but in then end this one was less expensive and just as fun to drive. Besides, racing on public roads is retarded anyway and drag racing is boring.

I love my 2011 Rspec and I got it for a pretty good price $24,500 and financed through Hyundai at 3.9%

I have the red/black seats with the red mesh.. its really annoying when it gets wet b/c it leaves a really dark discoloration for a while and the usb port is kinda misleading.. its semi-functional with other usb devices but its obvious now that it was intended to be used only with the ipod cord that is included in the vehicle.. or atleast it was in mine.

I have a very short commute.. like 2 miles and pretty much all of my driving is ~30mph and my avg mpg is 19.1 (i am not going to sugarcoat it.. its pretty low but on my drive from Texas to Florida.. i avg about 24-25mpg on the interstate the entire time going about 80mph

I really liked the genesis b/c nobody recognizes it..(and its not a mustang) but definitely get a lot of people staring at the car as I drive by.. mine is bright red

Not sure what the R spec. comes with vs. the track (I bought the 3.8 track) but when I go to the Hyundai webpage and use the comparison function down at the bottom of the page it allowed me to compare a V6 Mustang (Premium model) a V6 Camaro (2LT model) and the 3.8 track.

In the end there was no comparison. Many of the standard features on the Coupe were extra cost options on the other two. The interior of the coupe is bigger (I'm a big guy - 6'3" and 300 lbs.) The warranty of the coupe is so far above the other two its pathetic.

I can't wait to get it out on a road trip.
