  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Super excited....I'm ready to buy the 2012 5.0L tomorrow morning, is there anything I should know before I sign on the dotted line?

Thanks

I would recommend you know the out the door price.

If there is not a specific VIN in stock being referenced in the contract, I always add the following to the contract (hand-written and initialed by buyer and dealer):

1. Car cannot have more than 20 miles on odometer.

2. Car will be delivered without any dealer logos (except if on a license plate holder). This would apply to in stock also.

Here are a couple of things to check for:

Prior to picking up car:
  • Price out car on bankofamerica.com, truecar.com, edmunds.com, etc - know your dealer cost/invoice/msrp/market price in your area!
  • Get insurance quote for new car; obtain new insurance information prior to arriving at dealership
  • Get pre-approved for car loan (or at least obtain competing interest rates)
  • Bring Title in case of trade-in
  • Remove all items from trade-in vehicle
  • Bring favorite DVD-A and CD to test sound system
  • Bring phone to test pairing
After settling on price:
  • Tell dealer you don't want them to touch your paint! (okay, that one is just for me, 'cause I don't like the dealer-installed swirl mark option)
  • Check that bumpers and body panels meet cleanly
  • Check wheels to make sure there are no imperfections, dings, stickers on the alloy wheels
  • Look under indirect light for paint swirling, scratching, or bubbling - check all lower panels for scratches
  • Open moonroof and make sure the protective tape has been removed from the pop-up wind deflector
  • Ask to make sure the tire pressure is set correctly--better yet, ask for a copy of results of dealer's customer delivery checklist
  • Ask for a list of the TSB's they have applied to the car (they're required to perform all applicable bulletins before delivery)
  • Check the trunk to make sure the trunk roof liner is present (you shouldn't be able to see the speakers on the roof of the trunk)
  • Check the power seats, telescoping steering column (especially full extension and retraction, since that's a TSB-fixed issue), and seat heating/cooling (if applicable to your model)
  • Make sure the XM trial subscription is activated: if you get only two satellite channels, it hasn't been
  • Make sure you get two keyfobs plus a numbered black tie (that should have been bundling the fobs--the code is important if you ever have to replace lost fobs)
  • Ensure you have a cargo net in the trunk--it may be under the floor with the spare
  • Ensure you have wheel lock keys / trunk liner if you opted for wheel locks / trunk liner
  • Check HVAC operation quickly to make sure your A/C and heater kick in
  • Check seating surfaces for tears or exposed seams or threads
  • Make sure you have a full set of owner's manuals
  • Drive the new car and ensure alignment is good
  • Make sure there is no plastic covering the rear camera
  • Ensure you have the right floor mats! They are standard with the car... and I got the wrong ones with mine
Plus what Mark said. And I compiled that list above from input from many folks on this forum... so they're not all mine. ;)

Wow, Russimo - you're rock'n like always! I've driven my car almost six months and just learned even more about the ways I could have optimized my delivery process.:)

You guys forgot the two most important tips:

- Kick the tires

- Be sure you get a full tank of gas

Great tips, everyone, but the most important one is:

Don't go so crazy looking for imperfections that you forget to enjoy the car!

After reading this forum for three years, I would add:

Don't fix it if it ain't broken (that includes exotic wax jobs on brand new cars that end up ruining the finish).

I hope you aren't referring to Cilajet.

Welcome. Great choice! Pictures, or its a failed delivery.:welcome:

Cilajet is not exotic, it just has an exotic price. You can get the same with any high quality polymer wax at Walmart for $20. But it will not harm your car unless you try an use an electric buffer.

Hmm, pretty sure I didn't get the numbered black tie. Is there something else I should look for, or do you know how I would obtain this number after the fact? I do have a sticker on the back with some numbers that say "Continental" and "Please remove this label". Could that be it?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
You should definitely have the black tie with a letter followed by 4 numbers. This is the code you would need if you ever needed to order replacement fobs. The car can only ever have two fobs paired at a time.

I would call the dealer and ask if they have your code on file so you can record it for your records. I took a picture of mine ASAP at delivery to file away.

Congrats on the new ride and welcome!
