I would like this thread to include people's opinions, buying experiences, and price for which they bought their 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-spec, Grand Touring, or Track. :welcome:

I'm in the process of buying a 2013 3.8L R-spec. Here are the price numbers in my area. Northern California, bay area.

Invoice Price: $27,988
TMV: $29,037
MSRP: $29,765

This data was pulled from edmunds.com. I'm hoping to negoiate with the salesperson down to $25k. This may be wild shot but considering I have a pre-approved loan for 1.79% APR for 60 months, I'm hoping to get what I want. I'm also seriously thinking about trading in my 2004 Maxda RX-8 M/T base model. Hoping to get $4k for it in the trade-in. Since trade-ins are where the bulk of the profit of a dealership comes from, I'm hoping this will contribute to the approval of the $25k offer. I'm also putting about $5k down. I know most dealerships won't sell a car under invoice price but with everything I have explained I think I might be able to, any opinions?

Also I took much consideration in all three trims as to which one I really wanted. I did a comparison between the r-spec and track and I have compiled a list of additional options that the track offers vice the r-spec.

Sunroof
Signaling Exterior
Heated exterior mirror
Spoiler (Deck Lid)
Automatic climate control -> A/C
Compass
Interior automatic day/night or electrochromic mirror
Universal garage door opener
Delayed courtesy light
cruise control
subwoofer
diversity radio antenna
Navigation system
front seated seat
driver multi-adjustable power seat
front adjustable seat height
front power lumbar support
Track trim comes only in Black interior. R-spec trim comes in Red/Black interior

This info was pulled from the hyundai website with much research. It was really hard to find. I decided to go with the R-spec because you save $5000 compared to the track, no spoiler (deck lid IMO is horrible looking, I will install a different spoiler at my expense), and most of the features are useless to me personally and can live without. All of the engine specs are the same.

I sent in a price quote request via interenet/email to my local hyundai dealership. The internet managers who replied are much better than salespeople because they usually give you a better price than a salesperson because they want to make a commission off the sale. The internet managers want to sell you the car at a lower cost because their quota/commission is based on the volume of cars they sell. I have not received a price quote yet as I haven't test driven the car yet and was 10% in doubt that I wanted to buy the car. I set up an appointment for Friday of this week so I'll let you know then how my experience went.

Feel free to comment and ask questions. :grouphug:

HEY! I'm trying to do the exact same thing right now because I'm planning on getting a '13 3.8 R-spec manual in about 2 months or so!=) Wondering if you can keep me posted about how you're getting it and all the detail. If its ok doe!! And if they have to order the one you want. Like color (exterior/interior) thanks BROBRO:):):):)

Well the test drive appointment failed. The internet manager thought I wanted a 2.0T. Epic fail. Actually, most emails I sent out to dealerships, they are replying with "come on down and test drive 2012 genesis 3.8". It's frustrating when you specifically write in your email that you want a 2013 genesis 3.8 track M/T.

Anyways, I've come to realize that the track trim is what I want. What changed my mind? Well, I didn't realize this but the interior of the R-spec is 100% all red. I thought the cloth (middle of the seat) was red with black leather on the sides of the seats. Big mistake on my part because IMO it looks horrible. And I realized since this will be my first new car, I might as well go all out. During my constant searching and researching of this car, I came across R-spec's with black interior and Grand Touring trims with black interior trim. These two options for these trims aren't available according to the hyundai.com website. So as more of these cars trickle in from Korea, I believe we will see alot more variety when it comes to exterior and interior color. Of course, this is speculation.

I've talked to many local dealerships in my area and I get the general consensus that, as soon as the 2013 3.8L any trim hits the lot, they are sold within the week if not the very next day. Now this doesn't mean there is a high demand for the car. Considering, this car as only been selling for 1month or so and I'm guessing that nationwide hyundai dealerships have only sold about 30.

I did find a 2013 hyundai genesis coupe 3.8L Track M/T, exterior Black in Las Vegas. As I live near San Francisco, the delivery cost of getting the car to my local dealership will be a couple grand more on top of the cost of the car. Therefore, the best thing to do is get your name on the waiting list on all your local dealerships for exactly what you want and cross your fingers or just wait until Fall when all dealerships will get a huge amount of 2013 genesis 3.8. I've talked to the head honcho of some of these dealerships to find out if I can order what I want. This won't be possible as of now. Since Hyundai is a Korea manufacturer and all cars are shipped from there, they can't request. They only receive whatever the manufacturer sends them. Dealerships do know what cars they will be getting throughout the month. They receive invoices in the middle of the month and therefore can plan.

I've realized that I am dead set on buying this car, mainly because I just love everything about it and my current car has enough problems where I just don't want to deal with it anymore.

I'll update more as I come across some more information.

Hello there!
I would DEF recommend the 3.8 track! I just bought one almost two weeks ago! I live in GA and they had to truck one up from Miami, FL..however my dealer was willing to eat the cost of that (not sure if it was then just put right back on top of my total cost of the car, oh well!). In my experience with trying to find this car, it IS HARD!!
I have about 4 Hyundai dealerships within reasonable distance from my home, and of course NONE of them had the 2013 Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track manual! However, we just happened to make our way up to a local dealership one day, and they were able to search across the Southeast to find us one. And then three days later, we had our car! Also, I can't believe the dealership would recommend that you test drive the 2012 when you want the 2013! I mean come on, big difference! They tried to sell us one when we were looking for the 2013, no thanks! :D
My dealership actually had a 2013 Genesis Coupe 3.8 track manual on their lot but literally 5 days before we came to the lot, they had someone buy it in IL, so they had to truck it out! That was a bummer. In fact, these cars are very rare right now, like you said with Hyundai only having sold a handful at this point. It was worth it to my husband and I, because we have been very anxious for its arrival! We MAY not have gotten the BEST deal, whereas if we had of waited until maybe the years end!

Nonetheless, we are very pleased with the car and its performance! The interior is perfect! We have gotten sooo many compliments, and we haven't even driven it that much! We also just recently had the windows tinted, a must for this car, and it looks even better now!

Good luck on your search for the car, just be patient and I'm sure you'll have one before you know it! ;)

Would you mind posting a pic of your car? What color is it? And what were your previous cars that you had? I've never had a luxury car so I don't know how it feels to have all the gadgets that the track trim offers. Of course, Lexus and Mercedes has better but I'm just wondering about your opinion on the track trim. And what are your favorite features?

I haven't been so lucky in going to the dealerships. I have 6 in my area and I have been to all 6 of them in person trying to have them find me the car I want. Each of them searched on their systems and told me there are none on the west coast for the one I want.

I suppose I'll just have to get lucky like you guys did or wait for some guy at a dealership to call me back. I have left my phone number with each of the dealerships but who knows if they'll keep my number saved. You know one dealership had the nerve to advise me to get a new paint job for the color that I wanted and that he would give me a very good deal. I just about walked straight out to my car never to return to the dealership. Really?!? I'm going to spend $3k more on top of the selling price to get the color I want on a brand new car. No thanks. I'll wait.

Hi,
Sorry it takes me so long to respond, I only get notifications once weekly on here through my email!

I tried to post pictures, and the stupid uploader wasn't working correctly so I gave up. But I can try again.

The car def has a lot of good features, I mean for a sports car and considering the cost. I actually traded in my 2011 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T Limited. That car was very nice, especially considering that I hardly paid anything for it, and it had sooo many options. More than I was used to in my previous used cars. With my Sonata I was spoiled with the Bluetooth especially, so I could never own another car without it, unfortunately! And that little car had some pickup, it was so fun to drive and I got 32 MPG!

So, we traded her in for our 2013 Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track Manual. Which is Black on Black--even harder to come by, apparently. It of course comes standard with Navigation, which I personally would never pay for as an Add-On option for a car that I purchase. But, since it comes standard with the Track Package that I wanted, I got lucky ;)
I love the Xm Radio as well! The seats are soo comfy! It handles great, rides great, it's a really fun car!
I'll try to get some pictures up soon! :D

I picked up a 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 Grand Touring about a month ago and couldn't be happier. There are a few annoyances, but overall a great vehicle.

I went to a dealership in SoCal (Keyes Hyundai in Van Nuys, CA) to look at a 2.0T but they didn't have any, so I test drove the 3.8 and fell in love (yes, I realize the salesperson lucked out when I showed up on the lot). I researched this car for a while and had a hard time finding a dealership with more than one engine option. It seems the boat shows up with a bunch of 3.8's (or 2.0's) from Korea and floods the market with them. So if one dealership has three 3.8 GT's then it seems several other dealerships will have a similar selection.

The car I leased started leaking trans fluid the day after I took it home, so I took it back to the dealership. They called me and said the car needed a new transmission, my response "sorry to hear that, it is no longer my car, get me another one". So they did (they had another one identical to the one I originally got). No fuss, just a couple of signatures and I'm out the door. Now when I show up at the dealership they all know my face and treat me like royalty due to the "bad experience" I had.

The last mod the car needs is window tint, coming soon.

On to the pics.

@ Lord Dylan.........I Purchased my 2012 3.8 touring at Keyes Hyundai in Van Nuys.........Love Richard Chan.......I didn't wait it out for the 2013 version because I had previewed it and really did not like the look of the front end, I think it takes away from the low profile sport car look, plus at the time I was looking they only had the 2.0.......after driving a 3.8 there was no way I was going to down grade! I love the spoiler looks great......tint those windows and you are done with the bad boy!!! Congrats on your new ride!

Been driving this car for a month now and seem to get a lot of 'nods' and 'thumb-up' from other Genesis owners while out and about. We're in a small group and stick together.

Yes, window tint is coming soon.

Beautiful car!

What all did you have to go through to get the OEM spoiler put on? I have a 2013 3.8 R-Spec and really want the spoiler...

Thanks for your input!

When I bought the car I expressed interest in the spoiler. So they just added it to the purchase invoice, ordered it, painted it, then installed a couple weeks later. Pretty simple. I think they said it was about $600 for parts, paint and install. They really wanted me to buy the car that day so they threw in a few extras at dealer invoice prices (spoiler, trunk mat, ipod cable, etc).

Lord Dylan-Are those stock rims? Gorgeous! Mine aren't that nice! My car was on the showroom floor when I bought it and had UGLY chrome wheels on it. I made them take them off (I played car designer and pointed out they would look better on the black one!) and give me alloy ones! Mine are nice, but I LOVE yours!

Those are just the stock rims that came on the car. I'm not a fan of chrome either, the only thing I've considered is having them "painted" black. But I doubt I'll ever get to it since my wife isn't a fan of spending $$ on customizing cars. That just means I have to take baby steps with the Genny.
