  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am getting a loud buzzing noise when connecting a number of MP3 (iphone, ipad, ipod) players to the AUX input of my 2009 3.8 Tech. I hear the issue when i connect it to the headphone out of the device or use a dock cable with an aux out on it. The noise is louder when i turn up the volume and can be heard over quiet passages in music.

If I plug in a charger while using the AUX jack, thats when things get really interesting. Noise gets much louder and i can hear faint beeps and buzzes as if i can hear whats going on in the iphone. Like I said ive 3 different players and multiple cable types, all with the same results.

Anyone else have this issue or is there something wrong with my system?

Thanks in advance,

John

do you get the same result using a usb flash drive with mp3's on it? What is your record rate on the mp3s? I use 320 for the best sound.

I dont even need to be playing anything for the noise. As soon i connect something to the aux cable the buzzing starts. Gets much worse if i also connect the device to a charger.

sounds like the ground to the AUX jack is not working correctly. For audio cables, the "ground" is generally the outer braided shield (think of a wire "tube" or straw surrounding a regular wire carrying the actual music signal); this shield is supposed to block interference. If it's not grounded, any time you connect something to the AUX jack, that something (even if it has a working shield/braid) ends up being an antenna. Inside most houses, you'll pick up 60 hertz humming from the wiring in the walls for your lights & electrical outlets. In a car full of analog and especially digital signals? You'll pick up oodles of different frequencies on that "antenna" wire.

The AUX jack on the Genesis, at least the Tech package one that I'm most familiar with, expects 3 signals plus the ground shield: left audio, right audio, video, and ground. So there should be 4 separate contact areas/rings on the plug going into the AUX port. If an incorrect connector plug is used, the plug's contact rings may not line up with the AUX jack mating contacts properly leading to an improperly grounded situation.

I've never noticed a hum/buzz when using the AUX on my car though I've only done it a couple of times while testing/trying things out. The AUX and USB input assembly is a small part, easily removed & eyeball examined by a dealer though. Improperly installed connectors & grounds seems to be the most common manufacturing defect on the Genesis; several folks have reported issues that ended up being a bad/improperly installed ground or a connector not fully "seated" at the factory.

I have had the exact same issue. Just curious, did you ever end up resolving the issue? If so what did you do?

I guess I will try to buy an auxilary cord that has the 4 connectors... perhaps that is the issue... I'll have to take a look at it first... If thats the case then I'll need to replace.

Glad to see I'm not the only one with this issue. I hope I don't have to take it to the dealership to fix the ground.

I ended up buying a Kinivo BTC 450 an installing that in the armrest. Then, i put a USB charger in the lighter outlet in front of the console instead of charging the phone from the Kinivo. This separated the phone charging current from the analog aux cable and the buzzing went away.

Same issue with my car but I have chosen to ignore it. My sounds tends to vary with RPM.
