  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Seems like a simple question but it's been difficult to get an straight answer.

I went to a dealership and told them I want to order a GV80 with a specific trim and color combo. They told me I could put down a deposit, they would place the order, I would receive a VIN in 3-6 months and would receive the vehicle a few weeks later.

I went to a dealership ten miles down the road from the first dealer and they told me Genesis does not take customer orders. They would let me put down a deposit and request a specific vehicle/color combination but I would just be putting myself on a waiting list, so that I would be first in line for the next vehicle meeting that description that Genesis allocates to them. They said they have very little influence over what allocations come to them.

Which is true?

The second dealer is correct. Genesis does not have special orders. You do not get preference since you cannot actually purchase a vehicle until it is built and delivered. You are given priority for the next build that meets your option selections. Since most manufacturers are going to this model, the day of actually special ordering a vehicle is going away fast.

If you want one quick, you will either have to find one already available (on the lot or on its way) or try to order one of the more popular trim options since they are produced more often.

I got lucky and my local dealer got the exact color and trim option I wanted in a few weeks after I started looking. Only thing I did not get was the interior color I wanted (this one was in black), but I do not regret it. Wishing you luck on getting what you want.

Even years ago it was a joke. Dealer would call, the car you ordered just came in, however, it also has the optional air conditioner. It adds $1000 to the price but since it is an error we'll only charge you $900. Or you can wait another 8 weeks for the right one.
