  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I love the way the 17 speaker sound system sounds. I just want it to be a little louder. I also have two twelves I took out of 06 Sonota.

My question is: can I add an amp for the 17 speakers and if so what kind, and how can i add my current amp and twelves.

Thank you in advance.

The easiest would be to add the sub/subs. That would take you no more than half a day as long as you have a LOC and all the necessary hardware.

Adding aftermarket amps to the surrounds can of course be done, but it may not be worth the headache to do it correctly. It would not be cheap either. I sympathize with the need for a bit more volume - I would like to see the max volume be at 50 with all things relative - but I would not recommend you attempt to do this.

I went through this with my previous vehicle - Mark Levinson equipped GS - and it was a massive pain. Yes, I accomplished what I wanted, but looking back, given everything necessary I should have just added the subs and been done with it.

I did add 1 Boston G5 DVC to the 17 Lexicon and love it, FWIW.

What he said. This is not a system with simple RCA cables feeding into a traditional amp. Realistically, if you want more volume, you are looking at swapping out both the amp and speakers. And, you will need to install a pretty advanced equalizer/processor ahead of the new amps to capitalize on the 17-speaker potential in the car.

Ala Audison bit.1 or JBL MS8. Plus you will need someone who knows what they are doing, which will most likely be a shop charging $$$$ to work on an unfamiliar system.

Well, thanks you all just confirmed what I imagined to be the case. I guess I will try just the subs and see.

Once again Thanks for the quick reply.

What is your main source of music? If it is MP3, you can increase the volume of the files themselves with a program called MP3Gain. This may give you all the volume you need.

Thanks but would the MP3 gain destort the quality of sound?

Depends on the original source. Too much gain will clip. Or it will compress the peak amplitude to raise the average levels, and you lose dynamic range.

MP3Gain does not actually affect the waveform .. it is just a parameter in the MP3 metadata that tells the player to play louder.

Yes, you can push it to clipping, but the software will indicate that and you can back the gain off.
