Can key fob be reprogrammed?

I'm getting a 2013 Genesis to replace my 2012 that was totaled. I had an extra key fob for the 2012. Can that be reprogrammed to work with the 2013?

From what I have read on this forum:

• Only 2 keyfobs can be programmed for a car at any given time
• A keyfob cannot be reprogrammed from one car to another

I have had a 2012 version of key FOB reprogrammed for a different 2012 Genesis at the dealer, so I know it can be done. I believe that a 2012 is the same as the 2013. I also believe the 2011 fob and earlier will NOT work with the 2012 and later.

You will also need a new hard key blank for the dealer to cut a hard key for your new Genesis. You can get them ALOT cheaper on ebay than from the dealer. But a hard key is not required just a good idea if the fob stops working or for use with a valet service.

Cost me about $50 for the dealer to reprogram fob and cut new hard key from blank that I supplied to them.
