  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

If you have a Genesis for the American market with bluelink. Can you cross over the border into Canada and still use your bluelink through some roaming capability? If so, does it cost extra?

I am a Canadian resident looking to buy one, and I'm wondering if I can get bluelink functionality by buying the car in the US.

Thanks

Are you going to register it in Canada? I don't know about the Bluelink but if you have not already done so, check the rules to import.

Yes I'll register it in Canada, and I know the process is quite lengthy, but the vehicle is eligible. From what I understand, Bluelink registration is just a matter of VIN, but I can't find much information on it.

I am more so curious as to whether registering the bluelink with hyundai USA will allow me to "roam" in Canada.

I once looked into buying a new vehicle in Canada to immediately bring to the USA for regular use. It is daunting and expensive and perhaps impossible for someone not in the military or diplomat or other unusual situation. This is not about sriyegna issue, just a comment in case someone had that thought.
Now for a classic car old enough to be exempt from current safety and emission issues it is much more possible though still with many issues and requirements: transportation, insurer, both there and here (US), import tax/fees, customs transit forms, licensing, verification that features of Canada origin car are acceptable here, possibility of non compliant parts for repairs. Manufacturers have no interest in helping buyers avoid the national market of origin. Caveat emptor

I imported two personal cars when I relocated US to Canada. The process was ridiculous.

I had to retain a Broker to get through all the paperwork and fees. The cars had to be put into storage in the US for a few weeks while the paperwork was being processed.

Once I had clearance from the Canadian govt. (and paid them enough money) I was able to bring the cars in, but then had to have changes made to meet Canadian specs (Daylight running lights for one).

I would never do this again. I would rather sell the damn things in the US and buy fresh in Canada. Easier/cheaper/better/ and a whole lot less stressful..

Good luck!
