  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hmmm, wonder if it's worth it for those who want a V8 AWD Ultimate which is only available in Canada and no other place in the world! They go for $62,000 CDN with maybe a small discount so lets say $60,000 CDN. With the CDN$ in the toilet, the exchange comes to $43,600 US.

Food for thought?

It would be a fun drive down from Montreal! I'd say Toronto, but honestly the drive from Toronto into the US is about as pleasant as a stool sample analysis. (Actually, I kinda take that back. I've heard you can get some delicious peaches at a couple of orchards on 'the curve' from Toronto to Buffalo).

Good luck getting warranty service. They may do it in the US, but they are not legally required to, since Hyundai Canada and Hyundai Motor America are two different companies and they technically offer the warranty. A US dealer won't have any parts specific to the 5.0 AWD because HMA does not stock them.

From what I can tell by looking at the Hyundai Canada website, here are the differences in Canadian warranty vs US:
  • Radio and Sound Systems (i.e. radio, compact disc player, and GPS), DVD system: 3 years / 60,000 Km (in US it is 5 years / 100,000 km starting with 2016 models).
  • No extended drivetrain warranty in Canada for original owner (in US drivetrain is 10 years / 166,666 Km)
Also, if you have a big problem and need to invoke Lemon Law, you are SOL because there is no lemon law in Canada.

You can read about the experience of one member who apparently bought a car in Canada while living there, and later returned to the US:

Mark, very good points and cause for caution. I do want to call out one thing though, Hyundai isn't likely to stock more than the basic replacement items anywhere on this side of the pond :D

Depends on what you mean by "basic" replacement part. There are about 750 US dealers, and they all have to get parts from Hyundai Motor America, who gets them from Korea. I would bet that HMA stocks more unique part numbers than you think (even though I know you went to Hyundai in Korea), but with 750 dealers they do run out. In any event, I am sure the get regular shipments from Korea.

HMA is not even going to order a part that does not fit a US vehicle, which I assume that is why that guy's car is being shipped back to Canada for repair.
