  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Can't shift from park

Kia has same problem. Solenoid will probably fix problem, but if you simply disconnect solenoid and pull it out, you will not have to worry about it again. All it does is require u to step on brake before going out of park. Park still works as it always has. Remember when older cars didn't have interlock in Park? To pullout solenoid you have to remove shift lever and top of console which simply snaps out. You can then see that solenoid simply pushes a small plastic lever that blocks the shift lever from pulling out of park position until the solenoid is energized..

Kias have same problem. If you want to do a quick fix and not worry about being locked out again, simply remove/disconnect the solenoid from the console. It serves only one purpose: to lock out the ability to pull the shift lever from Park to whatever gear if you foot is NOT on the foot brake. Remember old cars that didn't require this ? Hurts nothing. Shift lever is still locked in Park until YOU pull the shift lever. You can look at the solenoid and, when energized by your foot on the brake, how it trips a small plastic arm that allows the shift lever to move out of Park.

Lol...yes, the thought of removing and not using a shift interlock had crossed my mind. Mainly because of the cost and it will probably happen again in the future. However, I want to keep the Genesis G80 as original as possible with everything working at best. Our safety inspectors here in Hawaii are sticklers about having safety issues fixed or corrected and will not pass a car if a safety feature is not working or has been bypassed.
The shift interlock part just came in this morning. So, I'll take some pictures of the install & post them when done.

I changed the interlock switch, but that did not resolve the problem with shifter. I actually had 5 other problems with my 2017 Genesis G80. The shifter would not shift out of park, rear shade wouldn't go down, front & rear sensors stopped working, Smart cruise control had an SCC error and hard brake pedal with an error code of P0504). After 8 months of chasing & tracing those problems, I went back to the beginning of troubleshooting and rechecked all the fuses in the cabin, engine compartment & trunk. This time I used a multi-meter, instead of eyeballing it. lol. Found it!!! burned-out 10-amp fuse in the cabin fuse box, module 3, top right column. Replaced it with a new 10amp fuse from Autozone in Kapolei. Shifter & all the other problems went away. Yes!!
