Being a community of car buyers, I thought it would be nice to have all our experienced members share their car buying advice. So here's a discussion where you can share how you've purchased new and used vehicles throughout your life, and which tactics worked best. Everyone is looking to save money, and perhaps this can serve as the spot here for advice on how to do that.
Throughout the many discussions in this community, I see people asking for car financing tips (especially when it comes to lease vs buy and things like money factor), how best to get a car loan, the best rates that one can expect (this will surely change throughout time, so this discussion could serve as a great place to check back on before buying or leasing a car), what a good, sensible down payment might be, negotiating for the best price, how to proceed when a buyer's credit isn't so great, what car insurance may cost, and even how to use car buy/lease budget calculators available online.
I've also seen some good tips mixed into large discussions relating to dealership negotiation tips, how to avoid car dealer scams, car sales tactics to watch out for, lists of questions to ask a car dealer, dealer fees one may want to - or should - try to avoid, and what to expect as trade in value. I see some good test drive checklists shared, though scattered around the community. Also tips on understanding car sales and lease contracts...
I know some of you are experts on how to negotiate a car price effectively and how to get the best deal on a used car. Speaking of used cars, what should one look for when buying one. Back to new, the best time of year to buy - which in my experience - is the last few days of the year - and even the end of a month tends to be better than the beginning. Another topic would be credit scores, and which ranges are going to get you the best rates.
In any event, if you have something you'd like to share here, please do! This way when members ask for advice in the future, we know exactly where to send them.
