  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Car feels cold with heat on auto climate setting

It's winter where I live, and I have noticed that I feel a cold draft in my 2016 Ultimate Genesis with the HVAC set to auto at 75 degrees. I can see from the climate control screen picture that the vents are blowing out only on the floor on auto, but it almost feels like there is cold air either being blown out the face vents or cold air entering the cabin some other way while in auto mode.

Does anybody else notice this on their car? I have not experienced this in any other cars I have owned with an auto HVAC system.

Thanks.

I have the same feeling about the climate setting as well. Even when it is set to 70, I feel clod and used to turn them off. The other car I have with 70 settings is pretty warm.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Odd, I don't have this issue and I'm up in Canada. I've set the temp and its always provided the warm air I needed.

Check the rear vents. Are they open? Are they blowing cold?

I always get the same feeling that it's too cold when on auto at 72-73 but when I adjust it up to 74-75 it almost feels too warm. I've tried with both the rear vents enabled via the touchscreen and disabled. In all of my other cars the auto setting at 72 is usually perfect. Does anyone else have some insight?

The same here. I found myself changing settings on climate control all the time. I my other cars in the past, auto climate controlled meant I was setting the temperature and forgot about it for the season (or even the year).
Going back to your question, I feel cold on my legs and feel there is a stream of cold air near the floor. Taking the car to dealershipo, they checked the vents out put temperature and said it is all good (as usual). It still feels cold though.

I never use auto for any and all of the aforegoing reasons

Another work in progress that needs perfecting

The cooler air from the vents is intentional. Many cars will direct warmer air to the DEF vents, and the FLOOR, while sending a bit cooler air to the dash vents.
Auto works pretty well for me, but if I want warmer air either on the floor, or from the vents, I just switch to manual mode. That seems to help.

Maybe Genesis Motors needs to work on this. I don't recall a single complaint of this type on the first generation Genesis sedan (2009-2014), other than some issues with the rear vents.

While they are working on it, I hope they figure out how to fix the HCAV mold/mildew problem, that also was not reported on the first generation.

Personally I find the heat and cold for that matter to work very well on the Genesis. The auto defog works very well and the A will freeze you out, huge improvement over the gen1. Some people are just used to have the temp set to 70 and all is fine. Thermostats differ quite a bit so it may be that you need to dial it up to 72 to feel what you are accustomed to at home. Then there is the fact that everybody seems to want a different setting. My wife finds it too warm in the house, I find it too cold and my daughter cracks a window open in the dead of winter and puts pillow on the registers. Some people come over and complain it's cold in the house. Point is everybody seems to differ when it comes to what the ideal temp for their own personal comfort should be. Dual climate control and heated seats pretty much solves this problem in the car.

Maybe some 2nd generation Genesis sedans are not working properly with regard to the HVAC, while others are working? Could be some kind of malfunction or poor assembly.

I would say the temperature was overall more even in my 15 Sonata than the Genesis. But I think it’s due to the Genesis controlling the inside humidity better than the Sonata. Every now and then when it went from cold to hot or dry to rain my windows in the Sonata would get some fogging. In the Genesis however I have never had any issues with fogging and we have has some really wild temperature swings recently. To me it seems the Genesis uses the AC more to control the extra moisture which is why you get a noticeable cool breeze every now and then from the system. I could be wrong but that’s what it seems like to me. I just keep my seat heater on low and my steering wheel heater on and I feel very comfortable.

Ours does this as well - cool at 73 but hot at 74. I guess we'll just live with it unless someone identifies a fix. Will also try the suggestion to use manual mode and see what it does.

4 degrees this morning and my auto climate control works great.... car warms up in about 3 miles of driving
heated steering wheel and seat helps a lot

Mine works great, I leave it on Auto summer and winter set to around 70. Occasionally I'll bump it up or down a degree or two but this is the first car I've had where the auto climate actually works well. I leave the rear vents off, rarely have anyone back there. Auto headlights and wipers work well too - all I have to do is aim it! :-)

Hello. I have a 2012 Hyundai Genesis. When I turn on the heat, it's hot on the passenger side but blowing cold air on the driver side. Can anybody help me?

This area is for the 2015-2016 Genesis. Probably get better help if you post to the 2009-2014 section. Completely different cars & systems.

Mine occasionally tries to roast me with hot air from the driver's side middle vent while the AC is blowing cold out of all the others. Shutting off the car & restarting solves it...
