May or not be the issue with my 2015 sometimes blowing cooler air out the vents in automatic mode; but it could be a sensor issue. I have noticed that my heating system blows fairly warm on shady/cloudy days with temps less than 50F, but start to blow a bit cooler in direct sunlight over 55F when set to 70F in the winter. The cooler air is not too bad, but it is noticeable. However, if I set the heater to over 72F in auto the air warms up again.
Well, I read in the service manual that the AC system uses the mirror mounted light sensor to read sunlight radiation to help adjust the automatic temperature. So that may be why my system blows cooler air in direct sunlight even in the winter; which I thought was weird. Now I understand sort of why it occurs. I also noticed that the auto AC system is also more erratic when my windshield is dirty; so it could mainly be that the system is having hard time getting the temperature right with a dirty windscreen due to it causing a glitch. The system does uses another temperature sensor in the dash, so the solar sensor could be causing some conflict in the AC system when it can not get a proper measurement.

There is also a sensor mounted in the side mirror which also could be the cause of erratic automatic functioning since it also controls the bend doors. So that sensor may need to be cleaned(or replaced) as well for proper automatic AC function. I would just clean under the side mirror to clean the sensor tip so it can get a proper reading. Hopefully a good sensor cleaning is all that is needed to rectify the automatic system when it is having problems with regulating the temperature.
