  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I noticed today after running some errands and pulling the car into the garage, a periodic hissing sound, sounding like a discharge of air or steam coming from my car. The frequency is irregular, but certainly no more frequent than once every 3-4 minutes, and eventually subsiding. Each release is only for a second or three.

I can't for the life of me imagine what this could be. Has anyone else with a 5.0 (or even a 4.6) noticed this?

Next time you think it might happen pop the gas cap door open. Listen around the gas cap. As you burn off gas in the tank, a small vacuum forms... eventually a spring-loaded valve in the gas cap opens letting fresh air into the tank. Otherwise the tank would collapse in or the fuel pump would eventually be unable to pull fuel against the vacuum. When the cap opens there is a slight air whoosh sound. It shouldn't be really loud though, and it probably only happens once every few minutes, especially if the engine is only idling - i.e. not chugging much fuel.

does it come from around the engine bay? could be water from the air conditioner dripping onto the exhaust. if it has a slight sickly sweet smell to it, it could be antifreeze dripping on the exhaust. pop the hood then wait for the sound or sniff around.

Maybe it's coming from the driver's seat ...

Sorry, couldn't resist :D I think I've been watching too much Anthony Bourdain.

My G does not exhibit this auditory phenomenon. Of course, a V6 sucks in less air ...

Might be water from the AC dripping onto hot exhaust

This is what it seems to be. There seems to be water dripping onto the exhaust, but my question is, why didn't I ever notice this in my previous Genesis? Is there a cover or shield or something that's missing in this one?

No such sound in mine. I could stand a little burbling from the back of the car however! :)

I'd like to, and before you put it away for the winter! Oh!!&$€¥%! Did I say winter?
