  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Wondering if all you Genesis lovers have come across a favorite paint protection? I have a Black Genny sedan and keeping it looking nice is a challenge.

I had a black car once, never again. The trick to keeping it clean is the in between washes maintenance, with the California duster and a Quick detailer. For black you want to use a glaze which puts oil on to the paint to give it the wet look, then either seal it with a paint sealer or a good carnuba wax which is typically better for dark colors but isn't as durable as a paint sealant.

What ev! My black Genesis It's just too easy with my car since it's my pleasure car:cool: It sees no winters and isn't driven to work......only pleasure. It's what you want out of life and your car:D

Don't get me wrong though, if it was my daily driver, I wouldn't have bought a black car.

Same here. Swore to myself never to buy another black car after owning a black vette.
But man, did it look sweet when clean!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
My last two cars have been Black over the past six years. Zaino products have produced excellent results for me both for the paint and leather during that period.

A wise man told me once " a person with a black car is looking for a white one" .... wish he had told me that before I bought a black Mercury Sable (POS) in 1986.

My wife and I were looking for a green 300M a few years ago and the local dealer only had a black one. They had other models with various colors, just not a 300M. My wife looked at me and asked to me look at the trim pieces on all the cars on the lot. They are all black. We bought that black 300M and have owed black cars ever since. Mine are kept in a garage so keeping them clean is easier than those of you who park in the elements. There are a number of products that make keeping cars clean these days. I like spray detailing and spray wax most of the time. I do give mine a proper wax job twice per year. But asking which wax is best is like asking which tire is best or which oil is best. Everyone has an opinion and none of them are wrong. Mother's Mequirs, Adams, Zaino - you won't go wrong with any of them.

4 out of my last 5 cars have been black. Maybe not the smartest thing in Florida, but they are so sharp looking! Do have a garage so that helps. I have used Zaino, but as mentioned by robthoke, I really don't think you can go wrong with one of the better known products out there.

I too have a Black Genesis 4.6. I wash with Meguires Gold Class shampoo, then clay bar where needed. I then used a mild polish/wax (Gold Class) to remove any swirls. I then prepped (removed the wax) and applied Liquid Glass, 3 coats. Car is really shiny and ready for winter.

Installed a 3M clear bra the first week, to protect the front end from Florida's love bugs and rocks.

Just last week I spent about 3 hours doing the following:

1. wash and strip off existing wax

2. Griot's Garage Clay Bar process

3. Griot's Garage Machine Polish 3

4. Griot's garage Paint Sealant

5. Griot's Garage carnuba wax stick

The Carnuba wax was more to increase the protection and longevity of the paint sealant. A lot of people do one or the other instead of both.

I purchased the Griot's Garage kit that came with their random orbital polisher/waxer. All in all, with shipping and a few extra items I paid $232.00.

I also bought a service cart from Home depot. This was a great investment. Now I just wheel all the stuff I use out of my garage and then back in when I'm done.

I have used and will probably continue to use the Mequiars NXT Tech Wax. Stuff works pretty good, but doesn't last as long, through regular washes, as they advertise.

I almost always use my pressure washer with a wide spray tip. It's great to use in conjunction with a good wheel/tire cleaner. Allows me to clean the calipers and inside lip of the wheels without one second of scrubbing.

I'll snap a couple pictures of my inexpensive cart the next time I wash.

I have always used Meguiars... I remember when NXT came out...it was a big deal. I used NXT about two weeks ago on the Genie. I also clay barred prior to the wax. The finish is ultra smooth. I got a little two vigorous with the clay bar in one section - and it caused some scratching. The NXT did fill those scratches to the point my fine scratches were filled in.

Does anyone have any experience with Zaino on their Genie? I have contemplated using their products. I am hoping to split the cost of the system with a friend of mine to reduce the cost.

If you have a black car, you will spend more time keeping it clean than driving it.

I've owned two black cars in my lifetime. My 73 Grand Am, and my 03 Marauder.

NEVER AGAIN will I own a black car. I want to drive them, not clean them.

C'mon, Bob - it's not THAT bad. You gotta admit that a clean black car is mighty good looking (and a dirty one is no so attractive). I don't mind washing mine - it's part of my routine now.

When I bought my Genny I had them put on the 3M protector film for the hood, bumper and rocker panels. I also had them install the Xzilon paint and Leather protector. After 3 months I am very impressed so far. Water just beeds off the paint and I hardly have to dry. They say I never need to wax as long as I own the car. The paint color is Saphire Blue and is slippery as can be. They also warranty any tears or cuts to the leather and will fix at no cost if needed for 5 years. It cost about $750 to have everything put on(That includes the 3M film). I admit dark color cars are hard to keep clean but they sure do look great MOST of the time.
We'll see how bad it looks after our first snow storm!! I'm a little scared
