  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Car will slam on brakes if I'm pulling out of a parallel parking spot onto road

Which driver assist is this? It's extremely annoying and borderline dangerous. If I'm parked on the side of the road, when pulling out of the spot onto the road the car will often slam on the brakes when I'm starting to stick out of the spot. If I use my blinker this does not happen. Is this a lane keep assist gone wild or what? I looked through the settings and didn't see what would be causing this behavior

Might be seeing the car ahead of you as an obstacle. Shouldn't you be signaling anyway? ;) That tends to disable most of the safety features like keep lane assist, etc...because it indicates your intent.

I think it does it even if there's no car ahead. I thought it was only happening if there was a solid line on the lane but I'm not sure that's accurate.

It is confusing though, even if you were crossing a lane without a blinker I don't know why a complete stop would be the answer...maybe a car far in the distance? Idk but it's really terrible and I'd rather not turn off any of the safety assists but I may have to

It is working as expected. When you start creeping forward and begin to intrude into the adjacent lane, the car either senses oncoming traffic traveling at a speed that would produce a collision if those condition remain unchanged, or LKA notices a clear lane marking that your are breaching. Thus, it applies the brakes because without using your turn signal it is possible that your lane intrusion was by accident due to your inattention.

Using your turn signal tells the car that what you are doing is deliberate, so it relaxes the constraint and won't apply the brakes when starting to inch out. Even with your turn signal on, if a car was overtaking faster than you anticipated, the brakes might still engage, but the danger of an imminent collision would be more obvious.

So multiple things may be going on. But neither seem unsafe to me.

Use your turn signals when changing lanes or entering traffic, and it will not warn you or try to stop you, unless there is oncoming traffic approaching at a speed which is likely to result in a collision.

If the car stops dead when I'm partially in the lane I'd say that's dangerous, especially if there's a car coming in a scenario where I have enough time to pull out but suddenly I don't because the car stops me.
