  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Car won't start

If the engine does nothing when you press the button it may be a bad brake light switch or a bad park sensor switch. If it cranks but no start then it is something else. Bad brake light switches have been an issue on other Hyundais.

It was the brake switch. The dealer fixed but managed to kill the power line to my custom installed escort radar detector and also trashed the driver seat and arm rest. Took me 45 minutes to get the black stains off of the leather. Took the car back and they fixed radar detector. Well at least the car starts now. Saw the G80 5.0 in showroom. Could not see any difference from my 2015 5.0.

Just the wing logos and the DRLs. Everything else is the same.

The rear sunshades (manual side and power rear) and electronic suspension are missing on the 2017 Genesis G80 5.0 as well... the 2015 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 was a better equipped car...

Sorry forgot about the 5.0 specifics. Good catch.

Had my car in for service and to look at the starting issue. They reported that my ground wire was the issue. Sure hope this fixes the problem.

Sad that the 2015 Hyundai 5.0 is better equipped than the G80 5.0. I know i would miss my rear sunshade, I use it all the time.

My G80 has a motorized rear sunshade and manual rear window sunshades. It is part of the premium package

Well it did it again last night. Totally dead car - so bad that this time I had to open the door with the real key. This time I had to have it towed to the dealer. Of course after being shaken on the tow truck during the drive to the dealer it started up fine. It has to be some sort of a loose connection. Maybe third time is a charm to get this fixed.

Hey RLink - did you ever get this resolved? I am having starting issues and want to give the tech some ideas when I take it in for the 2nd time.

Bernster - did that solve your issue for good?

Is there any update on this issue?

Hey I was with dealing with same issue with my 2017 G90. My dealer change the battery and then they clear the Error codes on cars computer as there are 39 to 40 computer so basically these error codes tell the car to stay running even the car ignition is off so this drains the battery

My 2017 G90 didn’t start today. Push the start button and everything comes on but doesnt crank. Had it towed, thinking it just needed a battery and that wasn’t the issue. Had it towed again to Dealer... of course, they are closed now so it’ll be tomorrow before I hear back. Just hope it’s nothing serious or expensive!!

please update this...my sons 2016 3.8 is doing the same thing and we just put a new battery in. He recently hit an armadillo, that has been repaired but this didn't start until after the hit. Cables to starter under the car...?

I have had this happen twice on my 2018 G80 3.8 Ultimate. It appears that it did not read my remote. If you try to start your Genesis with the keys far away see what happens.
This time I ended up starting it with the remote app on my phone. That got it going for now.
I have new 2032 batteries in both remotes so I know it's not a dead remote.
Scary thank to have happen.

It’s probably the starter. These starters are notorious for failing early. It resolved my no start condition.

Hello, I have a 2012 hyundai genesis that would not start. When pushing the start button, there would be no signs of turning on what so ever. I tried changing the key fob battery, charging my car battery, and even inserting the key fob into the little hatch but still shows no sign of turning on. Any ideas?

Well after tightening the battery connections I thought my problem was fixed, however the car still randomly won't start. Its really odd - for a brief second the car acts like its starting up then everything goes dark. Nothing will work. However I did notice that if I rock the car a bit it seems to start up normally. Its like something is loose somewhere other than the connections to the battery.
I’ve noticed that too I’m at the Walmart parking lot because I was having this issue I rocked the car a bit took it off parking to drive then back to parking pressed it and it started up!
I think I have a exposed wired or something somewhere along the car my drivers low beam turns on and off as it wants to, passenger reverse light won’t go on as well as the reverse camera, turn signals are at 2xs the speed! I’m taking it to the dealer today or tomorrow I’ll update on what was wrong!

I've had a similar issue and replaced the fuse box that attaches to the battery and haven't had any trouble since.
