Changing HID bulbs - What precautions to take

My headlight is burnt out. The manual says changing the HID bulbs need special precautions. Does any one know the procedure to make sure I dont get shocked.

let the old lamp cool for 15-30 minutes before replacing if hot. Disconnect the battery and don't touch the lamp glass when reinstalling the new lamp. I always let the car sit for a while after disconnecting the battery and turn the headlight switch on then off to let any built up charge drain. I don't know if turning the light switch on and off while the battery is disconnected does anything but it only takes 2 seconds so I do it just in case.

Thanks. Does disconnecting the battery reset any other functions. Seat Memory? Radio stations?
