  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I went out and bought myself a brand new GV70 the other day. Less than 24 hours later, I was getting it towed back to the dealer.

I had pulled my new car halfway in the garage/ driveway to organize some stuff in my garage. When I went to move my car back, I got in, turned the car on, and got the warning "Stop vehicle and check brake system". The car would not move from park, and although the battery turned on, I could not get the car engine to start. Has anyone had this issue? I have read some other threads where other/older models were impacted, but no definitive answer to what is causing the issue. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I feel like you are confusing a braking system issue with a parking brake problem. They are two separate systems.

Hi shan0223,

I just came across your post now but last year when my 2022 gv70 was 10 months old, I had that exact issue. Everything was locked up and I couldn't move the car. I tried and tried... After a couple of days the message went away by itself (it happened on Saturday and by Monday I was able to drive like normal). I took it to the dealership, they kept it for almost a month to find out what the problem was. They drove about 150 miles and said they couldn't duplicate the issue (???) then they said it's the control gear knob assembly. I had a piece of carbon fiber decorative trim around the knobs, the guy said the opening of that piece was tight around the knob so it triggered the error message. They told me to remove that piece but also replaced the control knob assembly. It's been a year and I've not had any issues. As for the carbon fiber trim piece, I sanded it down so the opening is slightly bigger than before and put it back on 😀. So what happened with your case? I’m curious since we are the only ones with this problem.

I’m having the same issue with my car. Noticed it today. Has your issue been solved? If so, what is the cause of this problem and how did you fix it

2025 GV70 Select, 8000 miles, bought in 11/2025, Certified Pre Owned (like new!).

Last night, after shopping, my wife started the car and both the speedometer display and the LCD light up all orange like a Christmas tree. I wish I took a photo of the error message. It read, in both displays, something like BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE. Displays were both light up orange, all display icons, speedometer, tach, etc GONE, just orange circles.
1. I arrived as she shut the car down and called me in panic. I was able to start the car and drive it home. (no idea how fast I was going, as the speedo was gone.). No sounds from radio, turn signals, etc.
2. Next early AM, I decided to take the vehicle to the Dealer (GENESIS OF LOUISVILLE). Top notch dealership. THE CAR STARTED UP IN A NORMAL CONDITION. NO SCREENS, NO WARNINGS. DROVE NORMALLY (35 MILES).
3. Explained the issue to the Service writer, got deer-in-headlights look. I asked if they could scan the codes and see what gives. She told me they would scan, but they could not work on the vehicle (today) as they are all booked up. Understood, as I had no appointment.
4. The Service Manager scanned my codes. He spoke with the Service Advocate for a few minutes, showing her what he found on his tablet.
5. The Service Manager then told me: he sees the history of codes, but doesn't see anything to do with the braking system / failure. He asked me to describe exactly what happened and in what sequence. I described as per above sequence of events.
6. He then told me the car has multiple ECU's and miles of wiring harnesses (figure of speech, of course). He said it could be anything: software, hardware, connectors, or any interraction that caused that fault. BUT, he said the car, in current state, WAS PERFECTLY NORMAL.
7. He said there are no technical bulletins describing that condition.... he's never heard of it happening.

So, short story made long:
a. no evidence of a failure
b. nothing they can do unless it happens again and I take photos of the displays and describe sequence of events.

So,.... we wait and see.
Nothing found, nothing solved.
