  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Cheveron Techron Deal 4 for $3.98 AMIR

Just picked my 4 up. Printing MIR form now. :D

As I understand it, fuel system cleaners like Techron are great with standard fuel injected engines but are less effective with direct injection engines. It cleans the injectors and the rest of the fuel system, but since the fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber of DI engines, it will never touch the intake valves. Techron won't help with intake valve deposits which plague DI engines. Am I missing something? Is there a way to clean the intake valve deposits with a DI engine? Thanks.

Amazon is showing a six-pack of Techron for $17.28, or $2.88 per bottle. I pay about the same at Costco. Grab a hot dog while you're there.

Looks like a good deal...if Costco is around. :(

BTW - I think the Amazon deal you are referring to is their fuel injector cleaner, not the Fuel System Cleaner.

You're correct. I can't speak for others but Hyundai recommends their fuel system cleaner every 3,000 miles, which is basically a rebranded Techron Fuel System Cleaner. The bottle is the same shape and color too, just has the Hyundai logo on it.

I just use it as a precaution. Can't help. There are a lot of other components that can be cleaned other than just the intake valves.

As far as cleaning them? Something would have to be injected upstream of the intake manifold, such as SeaFoam or maybe even the 3M Fuel System Tune Up Kit. One of the bottles is designed to spray into the intake system.[ame="http://www.amazon.com/3M-08963-Fuel-System-Tune-Up/dp/B003YJ47JO/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1356394912&sr=8-6&keywords=techron"]http://www.amazon.com/3M-08963-Fuel-System-Tune-Up/dp/B003YJ47JO/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1356394912&sr=8-6&keywords=techron[/ame]

The manual in my Optima and pops Azera both with GDI engines state to either run a fuel system cleaner every oil change, or run top tier fuel at each fill up. This eliminates the need for fuel system cleaner as often (maybe none at all). top tier fuel is recommended, but not required.
