  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The weather was nice today so I decided to wash the car and do some detailing. It'll take a few more washes before I find some trouble spots or the random areas that don't get much attention. I took it for a spin afterwards and noticed the sunroof had some dirt and grime on the side so I'll try to carefully clean it up but I wanted to see if anyone else has cleaned the sunroof area - did you run into any other issues? Any need to add some grease/oil or anything (or as needed)? Any advice appreciated, thank you!

I had a squeak in my sunroof that was getting more frequent over time. A little lubricant (clear plumbing grease) solved the issue. Details on what/where is posted here.

Also,
The exterior of the sunroof rubber seal takes a beating from the sun and I've seen it become brittle/crack on previous vehicles. I use a Chemical Guys VRP rubber/plastic protectant on this seal periodically to keep prevent this. Anything suitable for plastic/rubber (e.g. Armor All Protectant) will work, but do not use any petroleum based substance (i.e. oil, grease, Vaseline, etc.) as it will cause damage to the rubber seal over time.

I use silicone oil on all rubber seals and gaskets on the car. Works really nice. 👍

Thank you for the advice.

I actually have a new bottle of VRP I wanted to try out... good call!

Hey guys, silicon is NOT GOOD for rubber, so I'd avoid using it. I personally use a German rubber conditioner called 'Wurth Rubber Care'. You can order it on Amazon. It contains no silicon, and specially made for rubber. I use that to prevent moonroof creaking by sliding an old credit card with a thin rag all around the glass panels, and also between glass panels. And of course on top of any rubber seal exposed to the sun.

Finally, the black plastic panels on moonroof equipped cars, which usually exist at the very front and on the sides of glass panels is crap on Hyundai vehicles. So be very careful how you clean them, or they'd look like crap in short order, with scratches all over the place. Some folks think they're glass, but they're not. Only the 'middle' 2 panels are glass. Hope this helps.
