  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

On the freeway today, at 70 mph in heavy traffic, in rain, a truck ahead of me and to the left started shredding a tire. I was suddenly driving in a hail of small and not so small rubber pellets. My car is covered with black marks where the pellets struck. Fortunately, there is no physical damage and the marks come off fairly easily.

The close call came when the woman ahead of me panicked and slammed on the brakes, coming to a complete stop in the middle of the freeway. I will tell you right now that the Genesis has wonderful brakes. With cars on both sides, I could do nothing more than come to a complete stop so close behind her that the bepper went off. I pulled my neck in like a turtle, awaiting the rear-end crash. It was a miracle that I wasn't rear ended for there was just enough of a gap for the van behind me to get around me to the left, although he almost lost it in the process.

Nearly 10 miles later, the truck still had a flapping tire and was still driving 70, still shedding an occasional rubber pellet.

Whew!!! Glad you are OK...shame some trucker can't radio the culprit...he prolly doesn't feel the lack of tire yet!!!

You should call state patrol next time you see something like that, tires at that speed are extremely dangerous.

We had a chief of staff doctor here at a local hospital killed instantly in his BMW by a rogue tire, sad story.

I'm glad you're OK. I would also like to say that with some of the negativity regarding the suspension (which I still don't understand), it's nice to hear of the Genesis performing the way it's supposed to, which for me, safety was one of the factors in my decision.

I would like a bit softer suspension over speed bumps in parking lots and such, but on the road, I think it is fine.

Fortunately, I do not tailgate, but the lady ahead completely dead stopping for a small piece of tire was completely unexpected and I had been trying to move a lane to the right to avoid the rubber so that it took an instant to realize she had locked up her brakes. The Genesis brakes are totally amazing and that is what saved me.
