It seems that if I have climate control on auto and temperature set fairly high, 85F or so, I get cold air and high fan speed from vents when starting and running car prior to it reaching operating temps. Has anyone else experienced this? I would think that the fan would not ramp up just to push cold air before reaching the appropriate temps.

Damn! Where do you live that 85 is your default temp?
Mine is set at 72 and I experience the same as you in extremely hot weather.
 
I have mine set to 68 on Auto and it seems all I ever feel, regardless of the temp outside, is cold air blowing. I have rarely felt warm air and I was beginning to think that the inside temperature sensor, assuming there is one, was faulty.
 
Whenever I just want ambient outside air to be circulated into the cabin without out heating or air conditioning using the fan to increase the flow seems to kick in the auto temperature control. Is there any way to just circulate ambient air without kicking in the auto controls other than matching the ambient outside temperature? The manual doesn’t seem to address this issue.
 
85F not default temp in winter. Usually set at 72F but if do hit temp up button to 85F, the fan will ramp up and blow cold air. One would think that the fan would not ramp up until the system was capable, based on engine temp, of blowing warm air. Don't need the cold air blast in winter for sure.

I have had my vehicle for several weeks now, and I noticed the exact same thing. Unlike all previous vehicles I've owned with AUTO climate, the Genesis seems to just kick out air once the AUTO is depressed, regardless of actual temperature, and will eventually work it's way to the desired temp once car warms up. Not the AUTO climate I am used to!

So, let's see if we comprehend. To you, every temp under 85° is cold air?

Why not select OFF till your engine warms up a bit? Then hit AUTO. Also, check your MODE position to direct the air where you want it most.

Try shutting off the A/C button and setting the cabin temp to the outside air temp. Then set the fan speed to your pleasure.

No, YOU'RE defeating the purpose of auto control. It has to get to 72 before it gets to 85, right? Why not let it warm to that then crank it higher if you're still cold?

I have been scratching my head as I have been reading this thread. I never touch my system, which is always on Auto set to 72 degrees except for about three times when I used the defrost for a minute or so. It's always comfortable so I leave it alone.
 
Even set at 72F, when the car is started the fan on climate control is running and certainly not providing warm air. I would think that fan would start to run when the system can provide air that will indeed warm the car to 72F. Why run just to provide cold air. Just seems odd.

Ditto. For example, tonight the car sat outside the restaurant for 2 hours in 35 degrees. When I started it with Auto set at 72, there was no fan at "high speed" as described in the original post. Just a gradual warming with the engine.

(Though I do get that fan at high speed when the car has been sitting in 90+ all day. But the same principle holds: to get to 72 it has to pass through 80 first. I suspect if I raised the 72 to 80 in the summer it would lessen the interim fan speed.)

Only slightly off topic: same applies at home. Some walk into a cold house and raise the thermostat to 80 thinking it will get to 73 or 75 faster that way. Doesn't work.

My car operates in the same fashion. Fan will be running, but the fan speed will not increase until the engine coolant is warmer. Once the coolant is warmer the system senses the increased temp, and adjusts fan speed automatically.

Both my old Infiniti and my current Toyota operate(d) the same way. The fan is off or low until the engine heated up then the fan automatically (AUTO) ramps up to heat the cabin. They/it NEVER blew cold air.
 
Regarding walking into a cold house and raising the thermostat, you are correct that setting the stat to 90 will not heat house up quicker. What will happen is that the heater will ignite and when chamber gets to right temp, the fan engage and blow the warmed air through the house. The fan does not come on when you increase temp setting on stat but this is what happens in the car. I should not expect to have cold air blown out of the vents.
 
Interesting posts. On my wife's Explorer or my 2003 Vette, you set the temperature and hit auto and the fan doesn't come on until the engine has warmed up enough that the fan will be blowing warm air.

Either Hyundai does not make use of the engine temp sensor in their heater programing or there is a problem in your heater system.
 
I haven't noticed the problem when the car is warming up and the Climate Control set to Auto, but what does happen frequently is that the vents will blow cold air once the car has warmed up, even if the outside temperature is below freezing. This isn't to reduce an overly hot cabin temperature and it causes cold drafts throughout the cabin. I would have expected that once the set temperature is reached the fan would slow down to minimum and blow air that is at the required interior ambient temperature. This is what I have experienced in other vehicles with automatic climate control.

My agreeing with the original post was based on my experiences with other (non-Hyundai) vehicles that have the AUTO climate feature, mostly Lexus/Toyota vehicles. I can tell you that in those vehicles, with AUTO always engaged at 70 and outside temp <70, it would not blow ANY air until it was warm air. in the case of the outside temp >70, it would pretty much immediately engage the air conditioning to provide cold air. The Genesis seems to ALWAYS be blowing air in the AUTO mode, albeit at a very low fan setting. My experience with the Lexus/Toyota system has made me think that the AUTO climate system in the Genesis is not working properly, when in fact it might be working as designed. If so, I prefer the AUTO climate system of Lexus/Toyota (but not enough to get rid of my Genny)!

When in AUTO mode, touch the "A/C" button on and then off. This takes the compressor out of auto control. You will then get uncooled outside air, and that should not be affected by manipulating the fan speed.
