  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Cold air intake. Is it worth it?

I have a 2015 Hyundai genesis with the 5.0 I am installing a flowmaster exhaust onto the car, and was contemplating putting a cold air intake on it as well. I have all the tubes, and were starting to mock up new aluminum air boxes to increase air flow, but am second guessing if this is necessary. Has anyone put a cold air intake on the car, and did it increase the air flow by enough to make it worth it?

Depends on what your definition of "worth it" is to you. A few horsepower gain could be a reasonable gain to someone, however someone else may expect a 10hp gain or more to be worth the effort.

To be honest the stock intake system on the 5.0 is designed pretty well, so any aftermarket cold air system will probably not unlock any more horsepower than the stock system with drop-in performance air filters. If so, maybe just a few more.

It will be a gamble since no one really ever dyno a 2015+ model with an cold air intake or even with drop-in performance air filters to have any real baseline to go by from my knowledge.

Edit: nm, I was looking at Borla.

Which Flowmaster did you end up with? I only saw the Gen 1 Genesis in their website a few weeks back.

The stock 5.0 system is already a CAI that draws from in front of the radiator on both sides.

the stock system does have a cold air intake duct, but it's incredibly restrictive. There is a coupler that ties the air box to this duct. Remove just the coupler to alleviate that restriction and you will feel a power gain. Think of it as a free test.

Try K&N filters, another noticeable power gain.

I went on to construct a ram air by diverting the front brake ducts up into the air box and realized another much more noticeable gain.

coupled the above with a full 2-1/2 inch dual exhaust with X pipe and you will find a tremendous net result.
