  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi All:

I have just ordered my 3.8. So far most of the threads had positive feedback about this car. However, the one about cold start up concerns me.

I live in a place where the temperature goes down to -30 celcious degrees (Edmonton, AB, Canada). Has anyone had any trouble with the V6s? Any of you live in a place where the temp goes this low? Is this cold start up with all of the genesis? or just with the V8s only?

As a former Winnipeger I would have to say any car that has to endure -30 Degrees Celcius for any length of time must have a block heater in order to start.

any luck with finding a block heater for the v6?

This is a 9 year old thread. The poster most likely no longer owns the car.

doesnt mean he didnt buy one or know where or how to install one.

I live in Wisconsin, it got down to -25F (-32C) last winter and I had no problems.

My car was outside overnight and I was able to start it. My battery is 4 years old too.

It did make the splash shield on the bottom side of my car very brittle and it shattered on a chunk of ice.

Just make sure to keep the RPMs as low as possible until its warmed up. Stuff breaks if you push it when its cold.

In winnipeg it hits -40 some days and I dont want to wear stuff out from cold cranking.

Will go to hyundai dealer tmrw and see if the 90degree block heater is actually discontinued or not. Go from there maybe have to buy those oil pan heaters. Will make a new post about it since I cant find anything at all anywhere on this subject!
