I purchased my GV60 Performance on 1/24/25, but couldn't take it home until the following Monday as it had just gotten off the truck and the mechanics had not done the inspection yet and they were gone for the weekend. I had wanted an Advanced because of the heated steering wheel and vented seats, but it sounded impossible to get one so I gave in and got the Performance. I put 12k down, got 18000 in rebates with an overall price of 58k, so my monthly payments were $488/mth. So I picked up my car Monday after work. My daughter and I were in a drive thru when the screen said "Discharge Mode." I called the dealership and they were not able to tell me what it meant, but it was gone the next day. So the next day I drove my lovely new car to work, a commute of 1 1/2 hours. To my surprise I got an amazing massage about an hour into the ride! Love it! The drive was amazing. It was smooth and I loved the lane assist, HDA and the adaptive stop and go! I was in heaven! At lunch time I went to go get a cup of coffee and my fab didn't open the door, the face connect wouldn't light up, and my app wouldn't unlock the car. I called Genesis and they said to use my physical key, which I had left at home...They sent someone with a lender car all the way to my work. I love the concierge service! They told me it was the 12v battery as it charges all of the accessories and provides power while updates occur. Well 3 days later they still had no idea why it happened. The only thing they thought it might be was the "new car" update occurs after the VIN goes into your name, plus there was a new update release and they felt it was running too long to update both. OK cool I have all of my updates! A few weeks later I reached out to find out why the "Wireless Carplay" was not wireless. They were surprised and had me bring it in. I left it wiht them on 2/17/25. They had it all day. They said Genesis would be sending me some kind of patch to make it work. Ok sounds good. Well the next morning my car would not open again. I called Genesis Connect and got a tow truck driver to give it a jump. He said my 12v battery had a bad health percentage but he was able to jump it. I drove to work, picking up a jump start kit on the way, just in case! It didn't die but Genesis said to bring it by after work. I did and I haven't seen the car since. The said it was the ICCU unit and that it was not safe to drive it with it not working properly. It could cause it to suddenly go from 60mph to 20mph and could cause and accident. I was given a rental since they were out of lenders. The problem is the ETA for the part was unknown due to being backorders. I was so frustrated as I loved my car. I did research about the ICCU and found out the GV60 2023 and 2024 had been recalled just last March. So did they realize this before mine was built? Oh well I wasn't going to wait months for a part that might never come. I asked to return it. I was told by the dealership I could apply for a "Collateral Swap" and was given a phone number to call.
2/21/25 I talked to Genesis and started the collateral swap process. I was told they would have an answer in about 2 weeks. What is basically did was look at my situation through the Oregon Lemon Law lense. They allowed me to submit all of my repair invoices.
2/28/25 I put a deposit on an Advance due by the end of March. Yeah! I would get what I originally wanted
3/14/25 I was told that they had everything they needed to make a final decision and the documents would go to the higher up guys
3/21/25 My GV60 Advanced had come in! I had them do the ICCU test on it. I told them after all of these issues I wanted the interior protection and exterior protection put on at their cost.
3/21/25 I was told that until I was able to get an invoice telling them the number of days the car had been at the shop they could not process anything more. I argued with them that the only way to get the invoice was for the car to be fixed and there was still no ETA on the part. According to OR law if it is in the shop over 30 days it meets lemon law. I got tired of arguing with them and asked to talk to a manager. She said they would just tell me the same thing. I told her I didn't care I had the right to talk to a manager. Well it was Friday at 4pm their closing time so I would have to wait 48 business hours to talk to a manager. I called the dealership manager. She had the service department write a letter stating the number of days they had my car.
3/24/25 I got a phone call and email stating they would be repurchasing my car!! Yeah!! I would have to wait 3-5 business days for the "Solutions Dept" to call me to review the process.
I waited 2 days and called
3/26/25 The told me it was a 30-45 day process. I was not allowed to submit any of the documents and it all had to go through Genesis Financial and they are slow. Ugh that means my new car will just sit at the dealership for over a month while I drive a gas guzzling rental!!
3/27/25 I went to the dealership and showed them the repurchase letter and asked if it was set in stone now that they are taking my car back and I was getting my money back and they said yes. So I suggested they let me buy my second car and let them save of rental fees!! They agreed!! I might have a month where I would have 2 car payments, but I would get one of those back in the end.
3/28/25 I drove away in my GV60 Advanced! The ICCU test came back negative for a problem!! I have had it over 2 weeks with no issues!! I love my car!
4/2/25 I was given the offer, I signed it and sent it back. They took off $700 for my 1000 miles on it and they did not refund the Appearance Protection or the Excess Wear & Tear, but told me I could talk to the dealership to get a refund for that. They said it would be 2 weeks for it to be processed then I will be given a turn in date.
4/12/25 Fingers crossed I get my check and turn in the keys to my Performance before the payment is due May 1st!
So is it worth the time and stress? Yes. My Performance is still sitting at the dealership waiting for the part!!
What I would recommend is looking into your state lemon law before starting the process and make sure you qualify.
Important phone numbers:
1. Collateral Swap Application Number/Customer Assistance Center (when you call it, no one will know what you are talking about, but keep getting transfer and you will get someone that knows) 844-340-9741
2. Collateral Swap 714-912-6393
3. Auto Solutions Team 800-215-6230
I hope this doesn't happen to you but if it does now you know the process and timeline. I will update this thread when I hear more!
