  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Common Problems/How are these cars?

Hello everyone, I just recently purchased a 15' Genesis 5.0L with 54k miles about 10 days ago. So far loving it! Had a 15' Sonata with 107k miles that I was very happy with as well, great car.

Wondering what the consensus is on these cars? Common problems to look for? Things I need to look out for? Things that need to be serviced more often?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

My 2015 Genesis 5.0 V-8 spun a bearing with 70K miles, they replaced the short block, re-built the heads, new starter, new catalytic convertors, and multiple sensors and they cannot get it to run properly. it has been in the dealership for 5.5 months. They continue to talk to Hyundai Engineers but cannot figure it out. They do not have an idea as to why it spun a bearing, oil changed regularly with Mobil 1, always serviced by Hyundai, they thought that the O2 sensor was bad anthis caused the left bank to get flooded with fuel and may have diluted to oil and caused the bearing problem but they have now changed that and it will not run properly. Any ideas??

Who performed the repair work? Hyundai?

I do not think that a Hyundai service department would rebuild any engine parts like the heads due to how long the car would sit in the service bay and the possible damage to the head(cracks, etc) that could fail later after the repair. I would put my money that if the engine spun a rod bearing; the dealership would have just gave you a long block since the damage to the block and heads would be pretty bad in such an engine failure.

How often was the oil changed and what oil weight was used?

I have a 2015 Genesis 5.0 that I purchased new and it’s been a great car. My wife drives this car, I drive a truck. Anyway we have had several batteries replaced which seemed a little strange to me and the reason I say this is because the car wouldn’t start and I was irritated. I got out and slammed the door and noticed the instrument panel lit up so I got back in and the car started fine. I took the car to the dealership and they couldn’t find anything. I took the car home and the next day the same thing happened, I slammed the door and the car started so I took it to a different dealer. When I pulled the car into the shop I turned it off and explained what was happening. When the tech tried to start the car it wouldn’t start (how lucky was that) I told him to slam the door and it started right up. They kept the car 2 days and couldn’t find anything. They told me to take the car home and if it happened again, bring it back and they would do a more intensive inspection. Well I’m taking it back Monday and I hope I can afford to have it fixed. My wife loves that car!
