  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

In my Passats the easiest way to do it was to drive using the pseudo-manual tranny for a day or 2. When you go back to auto you should feel a difference.

Rebooting/resetting your car's computer/ECU is very easy to do.

My remarks apply to almost all modern vehicles. Your ECU has a "memory", which is maintained by a number of capacitors that act as storage batteries. To reset your ECU you need to discharge these capacitors. It can be easily done by disconnecting your car's battery and letting it sit for 24 hours. Note, the exact time of the "sit" is uncertain, but 24 hours never seems to fail.

A much shorter period can be done by disconnecting both positive and neg. leads from the battery, and then connecting the leads together while so disconnected from the battery. I use an hour for this procedure. You will need a jumper wire as the leads are too short to connect together.

This will reset your computer. You will have to reset your car's clock, but all other body memories will remain. Your computer will now "learn" your driving.

This is a useful tool when experiencing a check engine light. Often these lights are false alarms. Rebooting will turn off the light unless there is a true fault.

Great i will try it thanks

Amazing and quite useful info, thanks Rey!
