  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am considering a 2013 with premium pkg, and have a few questions.

I can likely negotiate any NAV updates that are effective but not in my car. In the future, will I be relegated to going to the dealer for updates, or can I purchase the DVD myself? How often do NAV updates come out.

Is there any insight into what improvements are coming on the 2014 that might make waiting a smart decision?

Only a dealer can install the updates for the Tech Package Navigation, but for Touchscreen Nav you get it at this site:

I believe that the yearly updates cost about $200 and does not involve a dealer, so not sure they can include that in any deal. Last update for touchscreen Nav was Oct 2012.

Rumors are that the 2015 Genesis sedan (completely revised second generation Genesis) will ship in 2nd quarter of 2014. Based on that, it is unlikely there will be many (if any) changes to the 2014, but I certainly don't know for sure.

If Hyundai is planning to release the 2015 Genesis in North America in the 2nd quarter of 2014, I would expect the 2014 model to be released anytime between 2 weeks to 2 months from now.

I've had my 2013 with the Tech package for a week now. I also have another car with a Nav system in it that uses a CD for an update, but it costs $225 every year.

I've been playing to the Hyundai Nav system all week and it's out of date compared to the Garmin I have been using ( lifetime updates included with a Garmin). The Garmin voice activated, Nuvi3597, is also MUCH more detailed. This is true for ALL the cars I looked at when I was shopping... Toyota, Lincoln, Lexus, & BMW.

I'll use the Genesis car navigation for local spots where I can add my POI if I want and for a long run i.e. from FL to another state, but when I'm in a strange town, I rely on my Garmin that sits on the dash :) Not sure if I'll take the car to the dealer and pay $200 for an annual map update.

Other than that, I'm loving my 2013 Genesis :)

Just my 2¢.

Unless you desperately need a NAV update i.e. traveling salesman or service person you shouldn't need an annual update. If you're planning to keep the car a long time updating every 2-3 years makes sense. I would only update annually if features, NAV or otherwise, are added to the update that make an update a good value.

I would think long and hard before I update the NAV on a G with the Tech package. For me no way Jose.

Agreed, not to mention the smartphones with the same technology in our pockets.

I think that depends on where you live. Some places have a lot changes in the roads, redesigned intersections, new freeway exits, etc.
