  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I need to replace my Dunlops on my '11 Genny 4.6. I've been thinking about both the Continental ExtremeContact DWS or the ContiProContact. As I live in Houston, light snow and ice could happen but not that often. My priorities are 1) safety (i.e., breaking, etc.), 2) softer ride, and 3) noise. Any comments or other suggestions?

Go to Tirerack.com, Type in the size your looking for and all the tires they offer in that size will come up, along with all the survey numbers ( braking, quiet ride, tread wear, etc.);)
This should help you make a decision.

After doing TONS of research I have decided on Conti DWS. I haven't bought them yet (I'm going to put another 5K on the Dunlops), so I can't speak from experience. There are several tires threads on here to look through too and definitely follow iamrelaxed's advice. Tirerack.com is an amazing place.

After putting 8600 miles on the Dunlops I replaced them with Continental DWS. The Contis performed great in the Chicago snow and they dramatically improved the ride. The Contis provide a much smoother and softer ride on the harsh Chicago roads.

The DWS is also very good in rain. Also you should consider the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity in a W rated. Both are very good. The DWS is better in snow.

Switched to the Conti's a few years ago on my BMW, and was amazed at what a quality tire it was. (I used to like Bridgestone)

The Dunlop's on my Genesis are still in good shape, but I'm going to switch them out next week anyway because of the big improvement in performance, ride and noise.

I have had 2 sets of ExtremeContacts (DW not DWS), I really like them, significantly cut down the "roll over" in high speed turns.

Mileage hasn't been an issue, 30k a set

Contis all the way. Put the Serenitys on the Gen but have the Contis on the Mercedes. Much better ride and less noise and all around better tire the Conti is IMHO.

Just wondering if you use snow tires in the winter. Based on the description on tirerack.com, the DWs aren't supposed to be driven in snow, ice, or near-freezing conditions. (The price for the tires is nearly identical.) We don't get much snow or ice here, but freezing temps are fairly common. Thanks.

Last year I needed new tires on my 2009 Genesis and looked all over the internet especially Tire Rack (an excellent site) and they recommended the Continentals. The problem was no one had them and I mean no one neither on the internet or local stores. They had backlogs several months long. I didn't have the time to wait and I wanted something rather than the Dunlap which are terrible in snow. I ended up with Pzero Nero. They are a vast improvement in snow and dry roads too.
