  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I don't have the tech package on my Genesis sedan, but I'd like to install an HID kit.
I find them on eBay for relatively cheap, but I was wondering is there anything I need to know before ordering?

I want to make sure I get the correct kit and that it wont effect any of the electrical systems down the road.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Be very careful with the type of HID's you buy on Ebay. But one thing I can tell you... know what type of bulb comes stock and verify the PnP setup. Get familiar with your housing to know what you're up against.

i would recommend against it myself. either that or see if you can have the dealer install the proper hyundai OEM system. i realize it will cost a lot, but it will be a proper set up...

Okay. one be very careful and one I would recommend against it, I understand being careful to get the correct plug setups, but is there anything I need to know about the ballast that can malfunction? I'm new to this, so please ellaborate if you can?
thanks

just buying some lights and plugging them in isn't a solution here. HIDs move around. they need sensors to at a minimum tell them where to aim on the vertical axis, in the genesis and many more cars now and days they also move along the horiztonal axis. a lot of people are desperate to get this 'cool' look so they buy the damn things and manually aim them, more often than not causing them to blind oncoming drivers.

i don't know enough to be able to tell you if it is easy or not to retrofit the genesis with an OEM HID setup, but i would recommend exploring that as your first option.

I would advise against HID plug and play kits. The main reason is that they throw light all over instead of a directional beam like they are supposed to. Too often you see cars on the road with nice blue/white HID lights and they are blinding you as they come towards you. I had halogen headlights on my Lexus GS300 and paid over $1k to have HID headlights retrofitted into my OEM headlights, but it was worth it because it looked proper. I would wait and see if they come out with replacement OEM HID headlights for a decent price and go that route
