  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2009 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 V6 with a small coolant leak that’s causing air to come in the system and spikes my temp gauge.
Had it seen by my shop and said they located leak by thermostat and water distribution housing at the rear or engine (diagnosis picture attached). He explained the leak is where the tube and the port meet.
So they wanted to charge me $800 to fix it that from what I understand is replacing a full assembly.
That’s 1/3 of the current value of my car lol so I opted out, for now.
So I’d like to ask: Anyone else had problems with their coolant system?
Did you have something similar happen?
Is there a more cost-effective way of fixing this problem? I really don’t want to bite the bullet and just have it done since I’m currently out of work. If anyone knows anything about this subject, I’d appreciate some insight. Thanks

You can always try using a stop leak additive. Might work for a week, might not work at all, but hey it's only $12. Lots more to choose from, so check compatibility and read reviews.

This looks cheap and claim to work with all types of coolant.
