  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Back around Christmas, somehow, the right rear taillight lens in the quarter panel got broken when the car was parked in a mall parking lot. Might have been a handle on a shopping cart, not likely the damage was done by another vehicle. Of course, no idea who or how it happened.

Contacted my dealer, he looked up the price, no such thing as buying the lens, had to buy the entire lamp body for $844.18 plus 13% tax!!!

I contacted my insurance company and made a comprehensive claim, I only had to pay my deductible and it doesn't reflect in next years premium.

I can't get over the price. Final charge from the body shop was $973.92 to repair a broken taillight lens. That includes flat rate of .3 hours for labour. Oh, it has LED's in it, big deal. How do they justify the price of the unit?

I wasn't impressed by the time it took to get the lamp body either, it took 27 days for the dealership to get the part. The part might be cheaper and more available in the USA, but if you need one, hang on to your wallet!!!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Remember the Genesis is not a Chevy or Ford. Its a premium car.

Might be true in the States, two sources in Canada put it at $844.18!!! Even at $525, that's a pretty pricey taillight when all you need is the lens.

Someone has to pay for the free health care in Canada.

Yep, that is high. I bought a pair of complete tail lights for a BMW 7 about 5 years ago. I think the price for both was around $350 from a dealer.

Some of this is the reflection of the popularity (or lack, thereof) of the car. If they sold as many Gennies as Elantras there would likely be a lot more of these spare parts made and sold, so the volumes would help pay for the cost to produce them. US and Canada data show that the Genesis sales are around 35000 per year versus Elantra 300,000 per year.

In the end, it's definitely expensive. Kinda like the cost to replace the audio head in the tech package ...

Good example of something Hyundai needs to fix ASAP. Bad rep item.

This is of course ridiculous, but, typical of auto manufacturers. Been going on for quite a while to make the consumer purchase waaay more product than they need.

Be glad you don't need a new seat...... $4000+ for a friggin' seat..... hell, you'd think they were made of something REALLY special.

I think I've found my new side job, pick up a used genny (perfect running condition) for 15k and part it out for 60k. No wonder the used parts are so pricey. Which of the online used parts companies gets the most play around here?
