  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Crazy Electrical Problem - Odometer Reset

Picked up my car today with a completely new instrument cluster panel installed. Odometer has been reset to '0' and sticker advising the last mileage as of 20-Oct has been placed on my door post. I'm not complaining about gaining a couple of 1,000 km (my mileage since 20-Oct) but have an odd feeling that this is going to come back and haunt me.

The Service Manager claims he knew nothing about this and said he would contact Hyundai Canada about it. From my own personal experience and others who have posted to this forum, I advised him Hyundai Canada were generally useless but he insisted on following up any way.

I do understand the industry practice whenever an odometer is changed but am still worried this happened with barely 13,000km on the car.

There might be more coming depending on what the service manager finds out.

As detailed in another thread, my 2015 Genesis experienced a massive failure of its electronic systems about 7 weeks ago. Speedometer, Tachometer, Back up Camera, Trunk Lid all failed to work, and there were numerous bogus warning signals on the dash.

Hyundai has been unable to fix the car, and there is no end in sight. For the first 5 weeks, they would not even provide me with a loaner vehicle.

16k mile on mine and it has not been in the shop once.

Then you missed your 15k inspection and service interval, filter replacements and tire rotation. Hope nothing goes wrong with any of those inspection points - otherwise byebye warranty claim.

My dealer told me today that my two year old 2015 Genesis 3.8 that had an odometer failure at 26,700 miles needs a new cluster which they have ordered. It will take a week and they said they will reset the correct mileage, all at no charge. Should I believe the dealer?

Sheesh, that is messed up. More glad than ever I leased my car. No problems except a bit with the front brake rotors. :grouphug:

Yes, should be ok. I am the original poster and I now have about 9 months on the replacement cluster, no further issues. BTW I think the cluster retail cost is about $2,500 so be glad it is under warranty!

Just dropped mine off at the dealer today.

Same exact description as the OP.

Mine happened with 2K miles. Not looking forward to being without my car for a week. I traded in my Sontata with less than 2K miles to get this Genesis because the Sontata's engine had to be replaced with only 800 miles on the odom. (and b/c the Genesis is awesome)

Welp, time to buy that full bumper to bumper coverage for the Genesis through 100,000 miles.

I came from other brands seeking reliability. Sounds like myself and others here haven't found that.

...and just got call that it's the same issue. Looks like I'll be without my car aprx 1 week. Luckily my dealer has Genesis loaners.

Hey I had the same thing happen to me. I think it was because of low voltage cause I had the car on and the door open when we were installing my lip. But it went away. But just like you everything reset to 0 my trip A trip B and my Odometer

I just joined the bonkers odometer club.
Turned on the car in the morning, and it was if the car had suffered the equivalent of a seizure. Same thing in the afternoon. Next morning, no issue but the ODO had gone to "0" and then started to tabulate miles.
When I explained this to the service advisor, his eyes spun in different directions.
No idea how this is going to turn out.

Fingers crossed.
