  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

folks,

i'm asking this question for my dad who has a 3.8l sapphire blue sedan and no internet access. when he is driving through a strong crosswind, on occasion he gets a humming noise inside the car. he said it sounds like someone blowing over the top of an empty coke bottle. his dealership has found nothing wrong, and i haven't seen any TSBs from hyundai about wind noise with this car. have any of you experienced this? if so, did you get it fixed? thanks for any info you can provide,

troy

Is the sunroof or windows open? I have never experienced anything like this in any car in which all of the windows are closed and did not have an antenna. It sounds like it does not happen very often. It is possible that air is trapping on some piece of trim, but to be so audible inside the car is unusual. Good luck in finding the cause. Keep us posted.

Sounds like it could be the seals around the windows or sunroof. I also have heard about windshields which contained small leaks. I have not heard that complaint about the Genesis. Tough to say if you have already spoken to the dealership.

You could visually inspect the door seals for misalignment. I noticed much more road noise in the Genesis I bought than the one I had initially test driven, and it turned out that the seal around the driver's door was 'twisted' a little, which the dealer readily fixed. The seal on your dad's car might be just a little out of whack such that he only notices a problem with cross-winds. It's worth a look (and not completely surprising that the service people might overlook this possibility).

he claims all the windows were up and the sunroof closed. and he says the seals all look okay. he did say that it only happens when the wind is say above 25 mph or so. and i'm not sure if it only happens on one side. he said it is kinda hard to tell where the sound comes from. i'll have to check it out myself when i visit him next weekend.

i'm kinda wondering if there is a hole in either the A, B or C pillar that wasn't filled with insulation or something and it's causing a reverberation...?
