  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does repair and reprogramming have to be done at dealership? Found a replacement online for a fraction of cost at dealer. Afraid to R&R if computers will lose memory. Any alternatives?

The scc module is plug and play. When I replaced mine, the startup diagnostics of the car saw the working module, trouble lights did not light up and the cruise worked as it should. Happiness. If you have a return option, what do you have to loose but a few shipping dollars and the labor of the install by your mechanic? Do it.

Dealer claimed entire system would have to be reprogrammed. My mechanic was hesitant to R&R for fear car wouldn't start after replacement because his Snap On guy told him it had to be reprogrammed. Wanted to make sure that it would not affect computer memories. Since the only problem was not being able to use the cruise control I picked up car until I could get more info or results of someone elses experience in switching unit out. Already have replacement. Use car in NJ and will do the switch when I return. They said the same BS before I had HECU switched out. Thanks FloridaGuy.
