  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

We own a 2011 Genesis V8 that we bought new.

Twice now my wife has almost had an accident because when she steps on the brakes the cruise control would not disengage.

This is what happened twice:

Later in April, after being on the road about a half an hour, using cruise control and going about 50 mph, I braked to make a left-hand turn and the cruise control did not disengage. I pressed hard on the brakes, but the engine was racing, making every effort with its powerful engine to go forward. After traffic had passed, I slowly released the brakes, allowing the car to move forward, braking and releasing repeatedly until the cruise control disengaged and I continued on.

The 2nd time this occurred the cruise control would not disengage no matter how many times or how hard she stepped on the breaks.

Has anyone else had this problem.

Any idea how to fix it?

Our dealer can't figure out what the problem is.

Thanks

That is a serious problem, and I wouldn't use the cruise control again until it is correctly fixed. In any of these cases, did you try pressing the cancel button or the cruise on/off button? Did those not work either? Does the cruise engaged light/message stay on when this happens?

When/if this or any kind of run-away throttle event ever happens to anyone, IMMEDIATELY pop the transmission into NEUTRAL to disengage the engine from the wheels. Then stop the car.

OP: before you click away from this page, file a NHTSA complaint here: Report a Safety Problem | NHTSA

Then... get that car in front of a competent mechanic, preferably an automotive electrician familiar with Hyundai.

(soapbox alert)
When this kind of excrement-striking-rotary-air-movement-device event happens, there is no way the driver is going to have the time or sense to diagnose it real time or remember anything except OH SH!T WHATDAFUQ BRAKES BRAKES BRAKES OH SH!T !!!! No amount of forum Q&A diagnosis is gonna get anyone anywhere. The last thing we need is someone trying to reproduce this on a road somewhere.
