  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just playing around with the controls,
found out that a Kwik Flick (left or right)on the
Indicator Stalk gives 3 Lane Change Flashes..
? - I use Chevron or Shell Regular Gas,
is there any benefit to using the next grade Up?
(Once a week I put it in + - Mode and
take it to the rev limit thro' each gear)

When I had the Hertz rental, I did not get any better mileage with premium. As most premium around here gets octane boost from higher percentage of Ethanol. Which has lower BTU content. Which offsets any computer adjustment for advanced settings with more octane of premium. Shell seemed to do a tick better with the V93. Maybe 1mpg. It much better (to offset the higher cost) mileage with Shell on my 5.0. Not so much with some high Ethanol content 91-92 octane gas from other places.

Around here Shell, BP and Marathon seem to have the best Premium.

The quick flick you've found is on just about all new autos and has been there for several years. ;)

I run regular, even in my R Spec. You can't really notice any difference between the two fules. yes it may give a few extra pnies but can you really tell it? I think not. ;)

The only 2 vechicles I ever ran premium in were a highly modified 383 stroker chevy motor with a supercharger pushing 600 HP and my modified Harley 95" motor pushing over 100 HP. They just wouldn't run on anything less.

Doesn't need anything but regular fuel.

I can't believe that running it up to REDLINE does anything but damage the engine. Totally unnecessary !

Personally, I consider casually taking an engine to its rev limiter over and over to be abusive, unnecessary, and detrimental to engine life.

Anyway.... does the rev limiter kick in before, at, or after redline?

Hi All, the Rev Limiter is there for the very purpose of Not allowing the engine to over rev..The fact of taking the engine to its full power on occasions is NOT harmful. I am not track racing nor abusing the engine. If an engine can not be driven up to its full potential then there is something wrong with the design.
Sustained driving at the rev limit I agree is not recommended, but a swift up and at 'em..is fine.. It blows out the daily commute cobwebs..:D
->Gears change at the Rev limit<-

I ran my 383 blown motor up to red line a lot and never had any issues. My Bike bounces off the rev limiter all the time as it still pulls hard when it reaches the rev limiter even after raising it above stock. I just shift and keep going. No issues after 5 years of doing that. And these are daily drivers.

I run the R Spec up to the rev limiter on occasion. Yes I've actually hit the limit before it shifts. It just pulls spark and keeps the engine from reving any higher. The car kind of falls off some after pulling so hard. Then it will shift and keep pulling. It kickes in at red line that is set by the manufacture.

As stated, the rev limiter is there for a reason and is set conservatily by the factory. I raised the one on my Harley by 1K RPM over stock and it still pulls hard at the limit and no issues. Without a rev limiter, you'd just float the valves and loose power. That's what happened in the old days before rev limiters. ;)

Plus the motor has a 100K mile warrenty so no issues there. :)

Hi Crusty Old Shellback & others..
I have seen the Bores of big engined cars going from Round to Oval due to just pottering around in traffic and never having being "driven"
"Without a rev limiter, you'd just float the valves and loose power. That's what happened in the old days before rev limiters" -> AND you could smell the hot/burning oil!
CastrolR was the "in lubricant"

I put in some premium didnt notice the 4 extra whooping hp for a v6.

I take it to redline when I can burns out some carbo deposits and cleans out the pipes. :)

There Ya Go""

The early Volvo 740 & 760's needed a full bore drive once a week or the Fi
would clog up.....You should see how the tech's used to drive them :eek:
