  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am a recent new Genesis 4.6 owner. One thing that won me over on the Genesis is the good combo of power and luxury for the value. Aside from the terrible fuel economy 15-16 MPG, at best, the car is nearly flawless for the money. However, I really hate how the ESC whether activated or not really nueters the performance of the car in the 2 lower gears. When I had heard of the great lengths some of you guys have gone to wire a switch to cut the circut for the ESC fuse, I initially thought you guys were doing way too much.

Now that I have had the car for the last 2 weeks, I really understand why some of you guys have gone through the trouble. Seriously, it feels like only half of the car's total power is available in the first 2 gears. I don't really care for that ESC "nanny" intervening at such low thresh holds, it takes away some of the fun of the car.

That explains the 15-16 MPG.

The electronic nannys are probably keeping your MPG as good as it is. Constantly bumping up against them uses way more fuel than is necessary. On my 4.6 I consistently get 19-20 in mostly in town use. When I am on road trips it goes up to 25-27 mpg. By the way those electronic nannys will keep you from complaining that your rear tires only last 3000 miles. Also the early intervention of the nannys allows Hyundai some level of comfort in offering a 100,000 mile / 10 year powertrain warranty. By the way, several manufacturers are scanning ECUs during powertrain related warranty claims to see what level of efforts have been employed to bypass factory set parameters. In the case of BMW and GM, if any effort to defeat these parameters shows up in an ECU scan, it means instant voiding of the warranty and a note stating such in the factory service computer VIN tracking that all dealers use to call up the car.
