  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

SO after reading some of the reviews here it sounds like the Magnaflow and Borla cat backs drone to much. I was sold on the Dynomax VT mufflers after reading the reviews here and called 2 local muffler shops in town. One told me he will not even install one because of all the problems he has had. The other told me they don't recommend them. They told me they do a lot of Dynomax but they keep having problems with the VT's and there rep keeps telling them they are fixed but problems keep coming up.

I too am looking to hear it but I just don't want the drone. I think my taste in mufflers is louder than most but I don't want it really loud in the cab.

I wonder if the problems with the valve making noise has to do more with large cammed motors (old school V8's) with a lopey idle.

I sir have been down this road. I started with a muffler delete - the drone was horrible. Sound on the outside was pure awesome however. I did a lot of reading about drone... It seems motorsports authority seems to have a solution. http://msastore.com/
There owner seems pretty willing to talk as he has a pretty crazy modified genesis. He was building a special x pipe that was supposed to reduce/eliminate drone.

The problem with the old Dynomax VT's is that the valve that opens under throttle to improve flow/noise wasn't padded so when the valves closed they would clank against the muffler. Dynomax produced a revised version with padding in this location and the pair I have on my car do not clank. I've been down drone road myself with my Genesis Coupe when running straight pipes and I'm not looking to go back. The car sounded phenomenal from the outside but the drone was too miserable for long trips.

I just purchased and received two Dynomax VT mufflers, two Dynomax resonators, MSA cat deletes, and their X-Pipe. I am hoping to have the mufflers piped up tomorrow and the rest installed.

I'll let you know my opinion asap.

Please do that would be awesome

I have spent a long time contemplating on my muffler choice as well. I like the the dual personality of the Dynomax VT, however I wanted control and immediately found the likes of Varex mufflers, but at a $350 each starting price and wiring needed, it was a no go for me.

I have instead settled for a set of BBK Varitune mufflers, mechanical adjustment to go from a three chamber to two chamber to what they call straight through, but really still is one last chamber.

Prior to that I will have two Vibrant 12" bottle resonators (Which I have laying around left over from the Coupe) cut into the MSA X-pipe.

I put over 30K miles on a '11 Genesis 4.6 with Dynomax VT. These were early models, and I had no problems whatsoever - no flap failure or noise.

The Varitune mufflers are interesting. Do you keep it 3 chamber most of the time? If so, hows the sound compared to a Magnaflow or Flowmaster?

Short sound video would be great.

Very interested to hear more about the Varitune mufflers as well - another awesome experiment, 84FordMan!

Which model/size of the Varitune did you end up going with?

I'm doing the muffler delete and installing the MSA X pipe. I'll let you know how it is next Monday.

So right now I have an R2C intake, MSA cat deletes & X-pipe installed. The rear section is getting installed tomorrow. It sounds good so far and I would say the biggest thing I have noticed about the mods is a bit of a gain in throttle response and a smoother power band. That is my opinion and welcome to be debated but, I will also say that I feel like the car pulls a bit harder and sounds pretty mean.

The R2C intake REALLY makes a change vocally on the car. I will let you know tomorrow how the rear section goes. I am also hoping to get some footage so you can hear the exhaust as well as pictures.

*Side note - for mufflers buy either a center entrance side exit muffler or side entrance side exit. What I mean is the In/Out let ports. Our cars mufflers are basically designed to be side entrance same side exit. This just makes it easier for the exhaust shop.

2.5" offset/offset in the stainless body.

Had my rear section piped up today with the Dynomax mufflers and the dynomax resonators. Sounds amazing, no drone, and allows the intake to still be heard at low RPMs and comes on nice and strong on WOT. Hopefully tomorrow i can post a video.

Can't wait for the video..I've been thinking on adding some cut out to my Rspec, but if yours sounds good I might go that route..
