  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Living in Dallas has proven more complicated. I've witnessed a multitude of accidents and almost been a part of one of them (thankfully, Hyundai safety systems saved my butt). Therefore, I've decided to get a dash cam setup. I have no clue, from all the websites I've read, as to which model/brand to buy. Just know I want to spend no more than $200. I'm also not well versed in wiring it up to the internal electrical system. Recommendations?

I actually just bought one a few wks ago from Nexar. Came up in a Facebook ad for a sale they were having. It's relatively small, records in 1080p simultaneously to the SD card and your phone. Comes with a sticky mount, SD card, dual USB charger outlet, a little wedge tool to tuck the wire, and a few wire clips. Suction mount cost a little extra. I used a discount code and with the standard 32 gb card and added suction mount it was $54

For the dual recording, the card will hold footage and just record over old footage once it's full (standard included card size holds 4hrs) so you never have to touch it. On the phone it records each trip for you to review, make/share a small clip, or just delete it afterwards. You designate how much space on your phone it uses for drives. If the camera senses an impact or hard brake, it will also automatically record a clip for review. If you don't want to mess with that, you can probably forgo pairing it with your phone and just run a larger capacity card. Then just pull the card out to review on a computer if an accident does happen.

Some lacking features to consider: It does not have night vision but it does capture night driving very well IMO. It does not record inside the car or have a rear camera option, although it does have a USB connector for one (maybe something in the works from the company). It does not have a parking mode (24/7 recording). Although you can wire it off a constant power source, nexar says it will turn off if it senses zero movement after an extended period.

Routing the cable down the pillar and over to the console should be pretty easy for you with the Genesis. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it and probably pick one up for my wife's car soon. Let me know if you have any questions.
