  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So I have a 2012 Rspec and my dad has a 2013 V6. My dad's interior started smelling a little funky a few years back and it eventually went away. It was pretty nasty for a while. Somewhere inbetween spilled milk and the smell of decomp.

Recently my car has started getting funky too.

Neither of us smoke, we never eat in our cars, and i'd wager there is a .01% chance that an animal died in the engine bay.

Anyone have the cabin filter specs? I'd like to order two for christmas and install them in the hopes that it improves or alleviates the smell.

Don't know what you mean by "specs." You need to find one that says it fits the 2012-2013 Genesis sedan. You can get one at a dealer, but I know Fram makes one also. Check out an installation video on YouTube for instructions, as it is tricky.

You should replace the cabin filter about once per year, much more often than the engine air filter.

Given the time of year its not outside the realm of possibility than an animal crawled somewhere in the car and died. My parents had this happen on their new accord recently and it was certainly a surprise. Is it likely? probably not but would certainly makes sense.

Hopefully replacing the filter will help but with a smell that terrible I am betting it wont.

Smells can also be caused by a plugged AC drain hose. (mildew)
