  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anyone know what Gas Additive the dealer adds when servicing the Genesis as recommended in the Service Schedule?

Someone previously posted about this and said it was Chevron Techron, but packaged in a Hyundai bottle. Techron is available at just about any autoparts or discount store.

I'm scratching my head on this one ... is this just a money maker for the dealerships? Does any other auto manufacturer require a fuel additive every service period? Does the additive do any good if only added to one tank every 7500 miles?

Normally, I would say yes. However, if you have a Direct Injected engine, it cant help.

Pure money maker for the dealership and totally unneeded in the USA. E10 does an excellent job of keeping fuel systems clean.

It may be a pure money maker for the dealer, but would be a negligible cost to buy some Techron and put it in yourself.

I assume I have a Direct Inject engine - it's the 2012 4.6 V8 and I'm not sure if you meant "can" or "can't".

I assume it's required to maintain proper service schedule under the warranty?

4.6L is the only engine who isn't DI out of the current Genesis line up. I say it can't help because with a DI motor, fuel is sprayed directly into the combustion chamber. Unlike a traditional engine such as yours, fuel does not wash over the intake valve where carbon build up is an issue.

Did you see that it is required as part of scheduled maintenance to maintain the warranty? It should be documented in the Genesis Owner's Manual if there is such a requirement.

It's right after oil which is why I started the thread - seemed odd to me.

I disagree. It's recommended. Or are you asking the OP if it's required?

Also just read, "Do not mix other additives."

This means I can't use Red Line SI-1? Horse poop.

I asked the question of if it is recommended or required, and whether such statements are documented in the owners manual.

I don't know myself, and did not claim to know in my post, but I did claim that if it is recommended or required that it should be documented in the owner's manual.

Yeah. I hear ya. It says recommended. In my opinion, they can't force somebody to use Hyundai gasoline additive, but it does say DO NOT mix others.

All gasoline sold in the US, by law, is required to have additives to keep the fuel injectors clean.

My BMW with direct injection didn't require any type of gas additives. Sees to me it's a Hyundai money requirement...

I'm wanting to use Red Line SI-1 cleaner, but apparently I'm not allowed to???

According to the manual at least.
