  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My dealer wanted $695 to rebadge my Genesis and another dealer $395. I asked as part of the deal to have it included in the price and they said OK. They did use the stick-on emblem on the air bag instead of the new airbag cover, but is till looks good.

Where are all these dealers rebadging cars? When I told my salesman, in early December, about people rebadging, with Korean Genesis logos, he had never heard of it. Later, in December, when I ended up buying the car, he commented that he had seen his first rebadged Genesis, that week, in for service, and everyone at the dealership was wondering about it...but he was "in the know" because of our conversation.

How is it a ripoff? You got it free with delivery of your car.

I didn't feel like being bothered with cutting off the posts on the front emblem (I didn't have a Dremel back then), so I had my local dealership do the hood emblem. They only charged $50 (labor only, I had the badge). $395 is lame, and $695 is nothing short of insanity.

P.S. The rear badge is so incredibly easy to do yourself that paying for it would be...questionable.

If you think that's a rip-off, someone in another thread said their dealer was charging $2,000 for rebadging.

Another thing to keep in mind is that it depends on how much of a "rebadge" they are doing. Depending on the model, whether you're doing wheel caps, steering wheel, front and back, etc, the parts can range anywhere between $100 to $500, with maybe 30-60 minutes worth of labor.

Then again, I see dealers adding dealer markup to Genesis stickers for nothing in return, and I'm sure there are some people that pay that, so perhaps $700 for badging that a buyer is unaware (or doesn't care to do themselves) is par for the course.

There certainly is a wide variety of experiences with dealers. I bought my 2009 3.8 Dec 26, 2009 in Hendersonville TN [Hallmark Hyundai]. The salesman there was very excited about the badge package and showed me a 2010 Coupe on the showroom floor totally wing badged. I simply said I wanted the conversion kit for mine [which I was buying that day]. A week later UPS brought me a kit with instructions on installation. Get this: FREE, as in NO CHARGE.

I took it to a local body and trim shop which has a reputation for being perfectionists. Yesterday they 1) installed the wheel covers 2) removed the flying H from the trunk and installed the wing badge (by the way, the flying H did not have posts matching the hole/slot configuration as does the wing badge:D) and 3) removed the TN dealer decal. Charge: $25.20. What a racket this aftermarket business is:eek:

Discover Hyundai wanted $2,000 when I mentioned it to them as I was buying my new car. Had to fight with them for the hood and deck rebadging.
