  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My local dealer in Austin is finally starting to get some inventory. I saw a 3.8 Genny there that had window tint and it looked nice. But they did it as part of a cheesy overpriced "appearance package".

If you're going to get tinted windows, do you all recommend having the dealer do it or go to an independent shop? And how much should it typically cost? Anything to beware of?

It is extremely rare for a dealer to do there own tinting, they usually farm it out to a tint shop.

You should read the previous threads on tinting to make sure you get what you want in a tint job. Those (like you) in very warm climates will want a tint film that reflects a lot heat (such as ceramic or metallic film), and not a tint film that just looks good (charcoal or smoke). The problem with metallic films is they can block radio reception on the rear glass, so ceramic is the way to go. Also, look for warrantly in case of peeling or discoloration (most likely with dyed films).

A high quality ceramic tint job (like Formula One Pinnacle) will cost about $300 - $350. You can sometimes save a few bucks in the winter months.
