OK, the big wigs at Hyundai supposedly keep tabs on enthusiast forums like this one to keep a finger on the pulse of the car-buying public.

I have waded through most of the "Dislike" thread, but its 90-something pages are kinda disjointed and tend to get off-topic.

As Genesis sedan owners, I think we should make a concise list of improvements that should be made to the car, with the aim of helping Genesis management get the G80 right.

So Manfred, here are the top 5 things that this Genesis owner thinks Hyundai should improve upon before you release the G80 in the future:

1) the drive mode button (normal, eco, sport, snow) should return to the last setting when the car is started

2) the head lights should turn on when the wipers are activated

3) the heads-up display should show turn signal indicators

4) the auto hold button should be eliminated, ala' MB, and should be activated by simply pushing the brake pedal when stopped w/ the tranny in D

5) a remote start button should be put on the keyfob

These are things that could be done relatively quickly and cheaply, as opposed to another desire of mine that would require a major redesign: I think the rear end of the car needs to say "I'm a major league luxury car" instead of "I'm the big brother of the Sonata".

So anyway, what are your top 5?

Sorry, but I have to disagree with #1. There are several instances when it would be inappropriate for the mode to carry over. For example, a different driver uses the car - or, it was set for snow. It's simple enough to press the button and change it when desired.

Also #4 - there are any number of folks who don't want the auto hold feature engaged. It's a nice option, but even though I use it often even I like the fact I can pick and choose when to use it.

I don't think the lawyers are going to approve #1 (except maybe eco mode).

Some of the items are not as easy to change as you might think, since many of those systems are supplied by vendors, rather than Hyundai making them internally.

My top request is for Genesis to have all replacement parts available in the US to avoid the delay (and expense to Hyundai) to individually ship parts from Korea.

Disagree on two. If I'm using the wipers to clear away bug splatter from the windshield in the middle of the day, why the heck would I want my headlights to come on?

Because it's the law in several states that when wipers are on, headlights are on. Using the "mist" option to clear off any debris would not engage the lights. And if they did come on for the 5 second duration of "bug clearing", who cares?

My top request would be to train the dealerships to treat Genesis owners better than we are often treated now. It should be at least as good as Lexus, preferably better since Genesis says they are committed to show respect to their customers.

I agree with all five requests but #1 I can take or leave. I'll add mine to the bottom of this message.

Mercedes-Benz does it right. You don't need a button to turn Auto Hold on or off. You simply press extra firmly on the brake pedal if you want the car to "hold". If you don't want the car to hold - you press the brake like you normally would. Perfect.

The headlights can be programed to turn on after several swipes - not just one, two or three...

Here's my list:

- Blind spot warning sensitivity adjustment
- Doors that close the first time without the need to re-open and attempt to close them again
- A much softer center armrest
- Increase sensitivity of "three blink" turn signal feature. Sometimes they don't work.
- Fix the sun visors. They're too big. I've never had a car where when I move the sun visor to the side door, it blocks too much of my vision out that window.

Ditto post #8. This is the reason why I'm leaving Hyundai after my lease is up. While it would be expensive, Hyundai needs to build Genesis dealerships and train staff after Lexus/AcuraMB/BMW model.

You can take #1 off the list.

U.S. federal regulations (EPA and DOT) penalize manufacturers for retaining optional modes (drive, AC, etc.) which are less fuel efficient than the default mode. The deal is the manufacturer MUST rate the vehicle's overall fuel efficiency at the default of all operating modes. If the Genesis held driving modes through restarts, Hyundai would have to rate the car's fuel efficiency in the "worst mode" possible, "Sport," which would negatively impact the company's fleet average efficiency rating with serious CAFE standard penalty consequences.

in my dearly missed VW suv. headlights came on in a few situations

if my speed clears 86-89 mph
also if the auto function of the wipers detected water for more than a few mins, i really miss that over engineered POS..lol

1. Add more tone to the exhaust and raise the power on the V6 and V8 versions.

2. More sporty rev match system, similar to what the Infiniti Q50's use.

3. Paddle shifter on the steering column instead of steering wheel.

4. More steering wheel bolster, perhaps a flat bottom option to make it more "sporty"

5. Come standard with the "Ultimate" version navigation screen. I don't have the specs on the top of my head.

6. Better voice recognition system. If I want to listen to a certain song on my Playlist, I would like for the system to be able to pull up the exact song. My Chrysler 300S can do this.

7. Remote start on the key fob would be awesome

8. Engine shut off feature, similar to MB when you're at the stop light, etc.

Also, this is not the Sonata's big brother. I believe that position is reserved for the Azera.

Still not buying it. Headlights are already automatic when ambient light is low enough to require it - and they come on right quick in those circumstances. In fact, there's a thread with someone bitching about the fact that they come on TOO fast and are TOO sensitive to a momentary drop in ambient light. I really don't need them coming on in a light intermittent drizzle if it's still bright enough that the light sensor determines that they are not needed. My DRLs are pretty freaking bright.

You don't have to buy it - it's the law where I live. But clearly you're intent on defending your point, so that's fine

I remember being amused the first time I saw a North Carolina road sign that said "Burn lights when running wipers". Gotta match, anybody???
