  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I drove a 2016 Genesis 3.8 as a loaner car while the windshield in my 2013 was being replaced. Was reading the window sticker and it says the engine is rated at 311 hp.. My 2013 is rated at 333 hp.. Can't say that I could really feel the difference but does anyone know why Hyundai did this?

HP and torque maximum values vary depending on the RPM. It doesn't do most drivers much good if the HP/torque maxes are only reached at the RPM redline max. The 2016 may in fact have the same or higher HP/torque at lower and more useable RPM range than your 2013.

As to why they needed to that, probably because starting in 2015 the Genesis is much heavier the first generation Genesis, and they need that HP/Torque lower in RPM range to achieve similar real world performance. Another factor could have been the need to maintain the same MPG mileage rating for the heavier Genesis.

I read that Hyundai increased the mid range torque (at the expense of top end HP) to improve drivability.
With my 13, you really have to flog it to get thrown back in your seat. Otherwise, it just accelerates like a "Luxo-barge".

More likely to maintain same drivability as before, even though they added several hundred more lbs in weight for the 2015/2016 compared to before.

maybe has something to do with the all wheel drive system in the new cars
Even the 2G RWD cars are heavier compared to 1G. The AWD 2G cars are even more heavy. The 2G 's just a much different car than the 1G, a complete redesign from the ground up, except for engines and transmission.

I didn't think that they made 2g in AWD . thought it was only in the 3g.

You've got your G's confused. 1Gen is '09-'14. 2G is '15 & '16. All bets are off on the '17 G.

At this point, looks like 2017 Genesis G80 is "basically" the same as the 2015-16 Hyundai Genesis.
