  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Some jerk put a dent in my passenger door the day after I bought my car. Being black, the dent - although small - stood out like a sore thumb.

I found a local dent guy (Bob McConkey, www.dentbusters-md.com) who came to my office and fixed the dent in about 15 minutes using special tools that reach down through the window channel and tease the dent out by pushing from the back - very slick. Cost $95 including the trip and the door looks like new. :D

Nice, I'll have to keep them in mind, thanks!

I almost did something like this as well. I went with an autobody instead because the dent I had was on the factory "detail" which was on the rear passenger door. The "dent guy" said it would be more difficult and wasn't 100% sure he could get it out completely. I went the insurance route..... This happened about 2 months into me owning the car.

Dontcha hate these jerks who have no regard for others' property? Or better yet, the ones that damage others' property intentionally?

Arrggh! It happened again, but this one was (sort of) self-inflicted. As I walked into the garage from my house, a tool (aluminum snow rake) fell off the wall (20' from where I was standing) and bounced off the left rear fender leaving a dent with a crease at the bottom about 1 1/2" long. I called the dent guy from my office and he happened to be right up the street, so he stopped by with his magic set of tools and (mostly) fixed it. The dent is gone, but a tiny bit of the crease remains - he was concerned that if he kept messing with it the paint would be damaged and then I'd have a real mess. Anyway, it looks 90% better and I'll train myself not to look too closely - most likely nobody else would notice it at this point. My next project is to secure any and all loose projectiles in the garage.

In another 6 months I bet I won't be quite as fussy ;)

Ours got door dinged, a HUGE one, right at the crease line in the passenger door, while valet parked. We didn't discover it till a couple days later because we picked it up in the dark (on Friday) and didn't drive it again till Monday. My wife was sick when she saw it. Not a week later a rock hit the driver door, above the handle, and added another small dent to go with the crater on the other side.

I took it to our favorite body shop and he said he'd have his paintless dent repair guy look at it but he was concerned because the one was at a crease, and the other was back where it would be hard for the guy to get his tool.

Turns out neither were a problem for this guy. He is really good. You can't tell anything happened to it and it only cost us $150.

Also now have a beautiful ding on passenger door. Did the repair require removal of interior door panel? Having someone come out on Monday who states he may be able to slide down along side window glass or may have remove the panel.

FWIW- if you go to your dealer for dent repair- get the PDR guy's business card because usually the dealer subcontracts the guy. It's alot cheaper if your pdr work doesn't go through the dealership!

Right you are. I am at my summer condo for the summer in SC and did find out that the fellow that does the PDR in the area does do work for many of the dealers. In fact, he is the only guy in the area doing PDR. I am just concerned about retaining the integrity of the door if he has to remove the panel.

Probably depends on the location of the ding. My PDR guy was able to fix mine through the window slot.

He did say that he may be able to "massage" the dent going through the window slot. Will see what happens on Monday.
