  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Looking to see why folks went one way or the other. I went with the 5.0 because I prefer the effortless highway luxo cruiser experience it provided. I really liked the lighter steering of the 3.8 and awd would have been nice, but in the end I didn't need awd in such a heavy car in my area.

the smile induced by occasionally mashing my foot on the accelerator was also a a factor. :D

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
As I stated before, I bought the 3.8 AWD, but if the 5.0 were available in the US in AWD, I'd still probably go for the 3.8.

I had a V8 Cadillac 4.9L that only had 200 HP. This 3.8 V6 has 311 HP.

I got the 3.8 primarily for financial and economy reasons. We put a ton of miles on a car (we bought our Genesis in August and already have 14K on it). My wife and I make plenty of money but have never been ones to throw tons of money into cars in spite of spending a lot of time in them. Our budget before taxes was 40K and while my wife wanted to go higher, I convinced her to stick with the plan. If we had decided to go up to 50K, it would have been a V6 Tech or Ultimate. There just isn't enough practical reason to go with the V8 though I would have loved to have had the fog lamps.

I drove a 2002 Honda Civic SI for 12 years and was finally wanting something in a rear wheel drive with lots of power. The Genesis fit the bill perfectly. It has all the power you could ever need, a ride that ranks up there with the best and a seat that has more adjustments than I hope to ever need. :D

Test drove the 5.0 and 3.8 HTRAC. IMO, I liked the power, handling and overall driving experience better in the 5.0.

5.0. I liked the power, the effortless power delivery, and the continuous damping control suspension (only available on the V8 in the USA). Also, since the Genesis is heaver than a lot of comparable cars it gets similar acceleration with the V8 as they do with V6s or even turbo 4s, but has a much different feel (smoother and more substantial).

As for mileage, I'm currently averaging about 19 MPG. While far from impressive to most people, it's the highest I've gotten out of a car in a long time. My Lincoln LS V8 (with less HP than the Genesis V6) would average about 17 MPG. Before that, I had a CL55 AMG that would be lucky to see 13 MPG. Compared to that, the Genesis 5.0 is like a Prius (except bigger, better looking inside and out, and much more enjoyable to drive).

I traded in my 2009 4.6 Genesis for a 2015 AWD 3.8 Genesis. My reason for the 3.8: price, AWD and mileage economy. I took a 3,000 trip a few months ago and averaged over 29 MPG on the highway (70-80 MPH). Much better than advertized.

I really liked the power of my previous 2012 R-spec and did not want to go back to lesser power. I tried the 2015 V6 but in my case it really was not up to snuff. Yes it scoots quite well but you need to be up in very high rpm's to achieve anything reasonably comparable to the effortless power of the 8. If I would have had only the V6 in the AWD option I would have gone with the V6 but luckily I could have the cake and eat it too so V8 & AWD was a no brainer for me. :D
